A couple of Tuesday nights ago I was at 111 Minna for their monthly "sketch tuesday" event. I loved the combination of art gallery, bar and event. I even wrote a review of the place and posted pics in my blog: http://www.madeinslant... When I was there I had a great time but the environment was definitely created by the particular event they were hosting. Maybe on another night it might have felt different. Other things I like about 111 Minna include its location (in the heart of SOMA), the space which is very large and open, and the service which was fairly good.

Best Dive in the area. Delicious, cheap Ethiopian food - made just as it should be. Lots of spices, tender lamb, and spongy injera. There are billiards, a jukebox, good bartenders, and cheap drinks

This place is really weird/random to me, but I have had very positive dining experiences so far (twice for lunch and once for dinner)...I can't quite figure out the cuisine - Asian fusion with hints of Thai and Indian, but also just regular stuff you'd find at most restaurants around town. I came here on a Tuesday night with a couple girlfriends I hadn't seen in awhile. While the bar was a bit crowded, we had the entire dining room to ourselves at 6:30. We ordered some delicious pomogranate cocktails and enjoyed trading gossip in a relaxed atmosphere. I had the tuna and avocado tartare as an appetizer and the tandoori chicken as my main entree. Both were very tasty - and the chicken came with small sides of yogurt and chickpeas (as well as rice) which was a nice surprise. We ended up staying until 9:30 and were never rushed. Of course, I don't think anyone else came into the dining room the entire time - so I'm assuming this place must get more busy toward the end of the week to stay in business. But, it was perfect for a fun catching-up with friends dinner. Toward the end, the owner came in with his barking dogs, which I thought could prove a bit unsanitary, but I didn't really mind. The desserts looked great, but sadly, I was too stuffed to try any. Something to save for next time. Overall, definitely a worthwhile experience.
