Created a Rateclub account just to write this review.. but I think I like it and will continue to post :).. anyway.. here goes: We went to Bruno's for our friend's birthday on the day before Halloween.  Right before that we came from Cha Cha Cha down the block, where we were already feeling pretty good off multiple pitchers of sangria and some tasty tapas.  We had already called in advance to confirm with a *manager* that there was no cover charge before 10PM.  Also, Bruno's website specifically stated that there is no cover before 10PM as well.  We arrived promptly at 9:40pm and were told by the bouncer that we would be charged a $15 cover to enter.  Despite feeling let down and misguided, and even though we were specifically told by a manager that we would have no cover as long as we were in before 10:30pm on that Saturday, we STILL decided we _would_ pay the $15 cover charge because we didn't want to ruin our plans for the night over some lame cover charge. HOWEVER, Since there was now no rush to enter before 10pm, we decide to hang out outside for a moment because it was still early and the night was still slow.  As we stepped outside of the line, the bouncer who revealed himself as "head of security" threatened us that cover will go up to $20 at 11pm.  At this point we were extremely displeased and asked to speak to a manager and called the original number we had dialed, but no one picked up. SO, Based on principle we said forget Bruno's because they lack integrity, honesty, transparency, and have no consistency with what's communicated on their website.  We proceed to hit up Medjool's which is a couple blocks down where there ended up being *no cover charge* and the sky terrace upstairs was perfect.  Crowd was friendly and a lot of good looking costumes.  The view was incredible and the weather was just as nice as you can ask for in San Francisco during the end of October. THE BOTTOM LINE Our group of friends drink pretty heavily so Bruno's gave up anywhere from $500-$1000 worth of revenue on drinks that night alone and not to mention thousands of dollars in future revenue.  I feel sorry for Bruno's management because some knuckle-headed bouncer of is costing them a lot of money.  And they can be sure that anyone in our network will be told about this experience. Sorry Bruno's, in today's business world and the Internet with Rateclub.. Karma's a b***h.

My general opinion is this: best for brunch; okay for dinner. If you would like more details, read on. I really like the brunch here. They have good entrees AND really good drinks. If you love bloody marys that are nice and dirty spicy and aren't too thick/saucy then you will love Parish's take on this classic morning concoction. They also have a blood orange screwdriver that I really enjoy. Good stuff. I also love that they have gumbo available during brunch. My husband, the Cajun was pretty impressed with their recipe. As for dinner, I have to give them credit and say I haven't ever had a bad food experience here. I think, for me, it's more the logistics that always seem to bother me. It's pretty dark for dinner, but the dinner menus are on the wall. I have bad eyes and I always get annoyed having to ask my husband what's on the menu or crane my neck trying to see around some tall guy's head in my way of the bottom of the menu. I also haven't had the greatest luck with service at dinner. I was here once with a group of women (about 8) and I could tell the server was getting annoyed with us because we were taking too long to sit down and order. Overall, I will probably go back again, but just for brunch.

So, I was assigned by my friend to find something awesome for us to do on a Tuesday night.  The pressure was on.  I was thinkng a concert would be cool: something funky, something bluesy, something different.  But I'm finding nothing on tap. I am googling around for aWHILE before eventually entering the magic words: "blues club san francisco tuesday".  Up pops Biscuits and Blues.  I had heard about the place, but never been. I check the schedule and see a band called the The Fat Tuesday Band scheduled that night. http://www.biscuitsand....   Jackpot! If you get a chance to see the FTB here, or anywhere, giddy up and go.  From the bass, to the sax, to the trombone, to Edna Love on vocals, the music made the night.   In between covers of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Bill Withers, etc, were purely-original-soulful-New Orleans-style-funk-jam-sessions that put a smile on our faces, a boogie in our butts, and a great vibe in the air.  I can't wait to see more artists perform here. As for the venue itself, the intimate design and ambience reminded me of the Punchline, but built for music.  Service and food was great.  We split the spicy sausage jambalaya, which was screaming, even though the very friendly staff person upstairs suggested the meatloaf.  I didn't realize until after I left, that I didn't even think to ask for biscuits.   Not that I needed one, but there's just  one more reason to go back!
