by Shane E. on My review is based off only a few visits. However, it seems to jive with other regulars I converse with. Another goth/industrial style club on Sunday Nights held at the Monte Cristo. What I like: A good mix of music. It's also a bit less hectic feeling than, say, Das Bunker. It's a great way to wind down a week if you don't have to get up early in the morning for work. The ambiance is interesting. Dark, moody in places, the dance floor is a bit intimate in size, and there's a sizable participation in the theme nights. Unfortunately, because of that it can be a little intimidating for some to come out who don't do "costumery". This may be intentional. Outdoor/rooftop smoking patio is pretty cool, even if you don't smoke. I like to go out there and just relax. Dislikes: Wow, this place can be really proud of their drinks. I know they hate pre-drinking, but at the prices the venue charges, they're not helping themselves. Note that this isn't an issue with Malediction itself, just be aware you'd better bring some money if you want to drink unless you can manage to come on one of the nights that has a drink special.
by cherie c. on Went here on a Friday night for Afro-Brazilian music. It was PACKED, with an excellent mix of people. The crowd was diverse in dress, style, race, and dance skills, yet it was also well-integrated. Everyone was there to have a good time, and the place was hot and sweaty. The DJs were good. There were live musicians as well. At times the crowd parted to watch some capoeira. The bartenders were great. Even with a packed house, they remembered what we were drinking. We had a great time.
