Judgment Day is near the machines have become self-aware at Little Temple. 0 Stars the 1 is only because it is required. Attended a birthday party here last night and despite the great music and good times with friends, management and the waitstaff managed to put a damper on an otherwise fun night. What caused this was an unwillingness to work with customers who  brought in a good deal of business to their establishment but because they failed to order their drinks from a waitress who was never around decided to order from the bar to expedite the process. Now, I understand the policy to have a minimum order requirement when reserving a table and the fact that at the end of the night payment of the bill is typically a disaster for those who remained, however the happenings on this particular night were truly bizarre. Close to the end of the night the table had only managed to order $80 worth of drinks from the waitress, however another remaining member of the party had receipts from the bar where he had purchased drinks that totaled $88 dollars pre-tip. Clear evidence that this birthday had brought in business that would otherwise not be there and an example of what people in this party were spending that night albeit at the bar. Now, it seems reasonable that management would work with patrons when this situation occurs at least by combining the two clear charges associated with the birthday to reduce the total amount required to meet the $200 tab. All other members of the staff including the bartender, promoters and other patrons thought it would be a manageable task to alleviate the situation and keep customers happy so they would return and bring their business and that of their friends.  At Little Temple, the computers seem to have more power than the humans since "the computer will not allow the manager to override or combine the charges to adjust the bill." WTF Realizing the voice of the reasonable person would not assist the manager and waitress in making an informed business decision to ensure future business we gathered the required $200 to meet the required table amount and submitted to them. After that we decided, hey we are spending the money, we might as well order another round so that we get something in return rather than just feeding the self aware machine money to make it happy. Attempting to propose this request we were informed that on top of the $200 charge for the table where only $80 had been spent, not including bar expenditures of course since those don't count, a 20% tip was being including and charged to one of our party's credit card where unless he signed his card would not be returned. It was at this point where voices were raised to address this issue and ensure that the proprietors were aware of the nonsense being attempted given the booming music from the excellent dj that we were forced out and told to take it outside, after the credit card bill had been signed of course. All in all an entertaining night, that provides for a good story, but much less business to Little Temple. Hopefully management will learn how to better run a business in these trying economic times. Then again it is in Silverlake so the night's events and whole scene may seem ironic to the hipsters/hipster wannabees that likely frequent this place and will not be dissuaded from continuing their patronage and may increase it since it is sooooo Ironic...

This is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that I'd visit every few weeks - unpretentious, good patrons and staff, and a solid menu.  The appetizers were basic but the chef managed to fuse the max amount of flavor in them.  The side dishes were delicious, and even though the salmon entree wasn't exactly my thing, it was well prepared and the sweet potato hash beds were fantastic. They've got great taste in wine/beer too, and I've gotta wonder how they found these selections.  Montevina is a friend's winery in California, and you don't often see it in the East or the South.  Hitachino Nest from Japan?  I had the ginger ale and it was just what the doctor ordered. Highly recommended for a casual and excellent dinner, especially for the value.  Props!

Found myself in Union Square on a Saturday night and was not sure what to do. I saw the red neon light that said Starlight Room and thought why not? Well, let me tell you why not for me. First off, when the door to the elevator opened, all you could hear was 80's music blaring. The cheesy door guy tells me it is $15 a person. When I look at him like he must be crazy, he says it's the hottest club in SF, and that we will have the best time ever. So, I peek my head in and all I see are people who look like they are from the 80's and also happen to be 80!!! Thanks, but no thanks. I think the old light might be out at The Starlight Room.
