I had a horrible experience at Velour. My wife's bag was stolen along with her wallet, debit card, credit cards, cell phone, driver's license, house keys, metro card: the works; to add insult ... the thief used one of her credit cards immediately at McDonalds and a MTA vending machine. I was struggling on what score to give this place, but here's what influenced my 1. * the crowd was shady; we should of kept a closer watch on our stuff. I grew up in the city, and I know better; however, we were standing by our things the whole time; so, it must have happened quick. * When I told the manager about the stolen bag all he did was keep on reciting the bar's policy: "we are not responsible for unattended bags." YES! I figure that but what should we do, e.g., call the police, go to the station, what precinct (10) are we in, do you have video cameras, will you take our names, etc.? A "I'm really sorry" would have been nice too. He started reciting policy to my wife who was in tears. I ended up pulling her away. * Security was great. They had more compassion and a better understanding of customer service than the manager. They tried everything they could. One of them even went to the club next door with me to look for who we thought did it. * The place is nice, but too dark; the bathroom and lounge area is very dark. I think that's why we didn't see who whoever took the bag. I really hope it was just our turn and I don't see a trend of thefts at Velour. I'm sorry for the low score, but we had a miserable weekend after a few hours here.

I usually attend Poproxx and Newwave city here. There is a large two-level dance floor here, with a backroom usually playing as well. The bathrooms are clean and modern looking, though things might start to become questionable about 2:30am. The bartenders consistently mix strong drinks. I don't know if it is because I'm a good tipper, or the folks that work these events like to see everyone have a good and sloshy time. The crowd that goes to Poproxx is friendly and rather consistent. The GoGo dancers are fun to watch, and usually the midnight band is good enough to justify buying their CD to add to my iPod. Bonuses: Internet terminals throughout the club, streaming video and audio casts of events (in case you are too sick to go!), and I hear they now serve food, but I haven't been there since the kitchen opened up. The 9 goes right by here, plenty of street parking, no need to feed the meter after 6pm, and it's easy to catch a cab around 2-3am if you've had one or three too many.
