by Gina C. on TAO is amazing in terms of decor and food. I can see why celebs flock to this one and others across the country. It gives you an up-there vibe without being too up-there. I went here for a birthday, and they really treat you well from the champagne in the beginning to the mini-pastry at the end.
by Renay Ormsby on LAME. First of all, *you* have to confirm your reservation, not once, oh, not twice, yes... three times folks. (If they are that concerned with no-shows they should take a cc #.) The food is passable. It's fine. A little sub-par for $70. The popcorn snack was one of the best things going. Portions are generous, I will say that. And they should be when it takes 4+ hours to eat dinner. And you think, well that's ok that it takes so long because I'm being entertained. Wrong! It was like watching the first to arrive at Burning Man (complete with stupid costume). I kept thinking the guy on the "stage" was setting up his camp site. He was moving tarps and bricks about. And then hammering spikes. If I want to eat with construction noise in the background, I'll have lunch on a job site. The wait-staff seems to think that being "friendly and funky" makes up for the lack of professionalism. Yes, I'm eating on a bed, but let's act like I'm not at home. The lack of entertainment, coupled with the agonizingly slow pace of dinner, makes one turn to the booze and thus effectively tripling your tab. The only way I'd tell you to go here is if someone else is paying and you just feel the need to check it out.
