I've been meaning to check out this place for a while now but never had a reason to go. When I feel like getting my dance on I usually head over to the Gold Room or Via- Buckhead. Not so bad for my first time, I must admit. The dj that night was pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised with the level of "non cockiness" that the staff conveyed as they were welcoming us, assisting us into the club. From previous experience, I never understood why folks who work at these establishments never smiled and always seem to look pist off. This is definitely NOT the case at Tongue & Groove. The front desk staff, the door men and the valet guys were all pleasant and did their job well. Next time I want to get my dance on, T & G will be my first pick.

This is my second time here, but the first time inside. My friends always rave about how great this place is. I just didn't have the patience to stand outside in line in the blistering cold the first time around. Middlesex is located on Mass Ave by the MIT area. I arrived around 10pm on a Saturday with no line outside, but didn't find parking until 20min later. Within that time I took to find parking, I managed to get myself stuck in line behind 8 people. It took about another 10minutes for me to actually step in. The cover was $5, not bad at all in my opinion. Coat check was $1, also nothing to complain about. From previous reviews and prior to going into Middlesex, the place really is one big room with high ceilings. Lighting is very dim. Bench seating travels along every wall minus the bar and dj table. Dance floor is right in the middle. Dancers and bystanders are thrown together. Overall ambiance is very soft and chill. The crowd is quite stylish and sophisticated, even though the dress code is relaxed. Lot of black and white going on. Everybody comes off as nice people. Although the bar was small, the bartenders did very well to get people moving along, despite appearing to be very relaxed. Maybe it's because they don't have a uniform. It's just a small observation. It looked like the beer of choice for everybody was Red Stripe. I however went for Gin and Tonic. It wasn't overly alcoholic which is a good thing cause I wasn't looking to be carried out. I ended the night with a Cucumber Martini. Note to self: don't order anything in a martini glass when there isn't much room to move around. As for the drink itself, it was so so. I'm not too much of a vodka guy, but the cucumber slice made me happy. There's only 3 single unisex bathrooms. Twice I had to visit the bathroom, each of those times, there was a 5-10 minute wait. I'm not keen on hip hop music, but the night consisted of a lot of fun songs from the late 80s and 90s spun by Stickman Productions. I definitely do recall New Kids on the Block playing. Awesome. I only gave it 1 less star due to the wait times. I would have only gave it a 1/2 star deduction if I could. Definitely looking to go back again.
