by Lauren G. on Another Miracle Mile disappointment. You would think Quiz Night at a place as hip happenin as Busby's is supposed to be would be packed with people. ALWAYS. But no. I went on a Tuesday night (the regular quiz night) with one other friend. There were so few people there that I thought they couldn't possibly proceed with the quiz night. But they did. There were probably 7 or 8 groups of generally 3 or 4 people. My group ("The Lightening!") got 4th. That was pretty disappointing too... But on the other hand, the food wasn't bad. I got chicken fingers and my friend got the appetizer with the mozzarella cheese. Both were pretty nice. The drinks were good too. And in all fairness, my roommate went a bit later on a Friday night and she said it was pretty awesome, with a bunch of people and a live band. So maybe it was just the Tuesday night blues. I'll consider trying it again on a busier night... Tuesday just wasn't it.
by Kirstin Nicosia on This was my 4th visit to Ecco and again it doesn't disappoint. From Eric the bartender to the fabulous food, Ecco delivers a great dining experience. We had a wonderful meat and cheese platter to start, all were very good. Next were our entrees of the steelhead and the fettuccine with chicken. Although the steelhead was remarkably like salmon it was delicious and well prepared. The fettuccine with chicken and escarole was great too! A wonderful light interpretation of fettuccine alfredo. The atmosphere is lively and some great people watching! Everything you'd expect from Midtown. It was a fabulous experience from beginning to end. As always.
by Meggan Borja on I'm not a bar/club kind of girl, but I usually have a blast at MJQ. Like any clubbing experience, it depends a lot on the people I go with, and whether we "click" over the course of the night. The cover price seems to have doubled from $5 to $10 over the past few years, so that sort of stinks, as I tend to avoid cover prices and search for free Ladies Night opportunities. However, the establishments offering such bargains tend to be lame. The bar is cash-only, which isn't that big of a deal, since there is a glowing, spaceship-like ATM inside, beckoning drinkers to make withdrawals. The music always is good, encouraging me to slough off my white girl shell and flail like a piece of seaweed without care. Plus, the crowd is cool and non-judgmental, and truly there to dance, not engage in seedy behavior. Seriously, one of my girlfriends left her purse on a stool at MJQ last weekend, and when she returned a couple hours later to look for it, it was still there. While the fun factor for all my social outings depends on the group of people I'm with, MJQ makes it easy to have a great time.
