by Max T. on This place had by far the douchnozzliest bouncer I've ever encountered in my life (and I lived most of my adult life in NYC). I wasn't aware of the dress code, which is fine, and there are two reasonable options if you're working the door and you don't think "customer service" is a dirty phrase: - Refuse entry... fair enough. Rules are rules. - Say, "hey, next time, be sure to wear dress shoes." Got it. This piece of work looked us up and down, made a face like he had smelled dog shite, and said (without the slightest bit of humor): "Hey partner, next time wear some decent shoes." Partner?? Finally! There's the LA that everyone had warned me about. Yay, I got my authentic experience. And those are designer sneakers, Mr. Mcbitchyson. The entire staff here has clearly spent too far much time in that awesome LA traffic. I can sum up the crowd by saying that two ancient botox zombies actually intentionally danced *into* us for no apparent reason in the middle of an empty floor, spilling our $12 well drinks on our inadequate shoes. Um. It's pretty inside?
by Elliott Bellefeuille on Has a charming, old time feel to it. Pretty cheap, typical diner filled with different crowds of people. I'm not sure why this place has been rated so low-- it's a diner, not a steak house... it's SUPPOSED to be tacky!!! Great for a late dinner after a movie at the Plaza on the other side of the strip mall.
by Maurice Rosenblatt on So it's a Monday night and I find myself at the Kress for a TV pilot premiere party. First off, there's a bunch of parking in the back, but of course I didn't know this at the time so I ended up parking a couple of blocks away. I've got pretty good parking karma, and it was a Monday, so I guess it wasn't a big deal. However, this is good information to know if you ever want to go here on a Saturday night or something. The entrance for the premiere was through the back, which I found a bit odd. Of course, we arrived fashionably late, and by fashionably late, I mean we missed the screening. Oh well. I really just came to mingle anyway. The screening was held at the second floor, in a really nice looking lounge area. Spacious, stylish, it had a really nice vibe. I would probably have good things to say about it had I made it in time for the screening, so let's just pretend I did and it was amazing. The kicker was upstairs where the after party was held. You see, there's this rooftop lounge upstairs, and I have to admit that it's pretty impressive. Tables line both sides of the establishment, and there are also tables and couches in the middle row. A good part of the space is lit by candlelight, with a few additional incandescents surrounding the perimeter. It's open air, so smoking is permitted. There's a full bar in the back, with some pretty chill bartenders. Drink prices are a bit on the higher end, though, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of heading down here to get smashed. A little preparation might help. Long story short: it's a cool venue, and I bet it makes for a cool clubbing spot. I'll have to come back sometime to find out.
