I've been to Roe Restaurant and Prive Bar twice, once before and after the renovation. This review is strictly on my trip after the renovation which was last night for a friend's birthday celebration. The cover was $20 and my friends all admitted that if it weren't for our friend, we would not have paid it. This venue isn't swanky like Slide or even Vessel, which was further confirmed when we arrived upstairs to the bar. Ambiance: There probably was some sort of swanky decor, bit it all got lost in with the crowds of people. There was no distinct dance floor, so there were people dancing everywhere, which in turn makes it hard to navigate through the crowd. Crowd: The crowd was young--median age was probably 24, which is usually fine, but I think I'm just getting too old for this. Music: The music was only alright--the dj played 20 seconds of each song before jumping to the next. This infuriated me when he played a song I liked, as you can imagine. Gogo Dancers: Yes, gogo dancers! Just another point that this is far from a classy venue. They two girls were wearing matching what looked like mini cartoon character print bikinis with matching hoods. (It rained that night, so I thought that was quite appropriate. Ha!) Drinks: The bartenders were actually decent, though not too consistent. I had two margaritas and the first one was very limey and tart, just as I like 'em. The second was sweeter and had a twinge of pineapple flavor, which was also good, but a bit strange. I had an alright time, and is why I gave it three stars instead of two, as the company was good and again, the music and drinks were decent. I would avoid going again because it was so crowded and the lack of ambiance. So many better lounges in the city...
