This place was just too dull to inspire an insightful, scathing review. Instead, a short anecdote: Knowing that I had to stick around for a bit (but not too long), I ordered one simple, easy drink: Stoli Razz and soda. Twelve bucks. And it came in a rocks glass. I tried to be positive, reminding myself that fancy drinks from fancy cocktail places cost more. Then the bartender rang through an automatic 20% tip on my one drink order, charging $14 and change to my credit card. Never. Again. Who ever goes here and wants to come back, really?

Project One --a groovy, snappy space that exudes class, sexiness and inspiration without intimidation. If you know me or read my reviews, you know that I'm more of a "bar babe". I like my bars like I like my men-down to earth, full of personality, relaxed, maybe a little questionable/scruffy/rough around the edges/ a certain quirkiness if you will. I'm not too keen on people or places being too "done" you know? It seems either pretentious or artificial. I'll admit I was up in the air about trading my comfy kicks, jeans and sweatshirt for a dress and heeled boots before heading over here but after coming here I'm so glad I got my happy butt off the bar stool and gussied up. Yes, it was worth it. Ok so the whole bar and DJ with a dash of art gallery has been done quite a few times in SF (hello 111 Minna, Space Gallery, etc). Project One kicks it up a notch utilizing the 3000+sq. feet inside to create both a gallery to peruse/make a purchase in and a banquette area/dance floor to get your groove on. The dark lighting and high ceilings blend well with DJ beats and add to that sexy feel everyone's mentioned in their reviews. The bar itself is good sized and if the staff on Tuesday was an indication their hired talent, they will be more than capable of dealing with a wild pack of hipsters on a Saturday night. It's located in the Design District in Potrero Hill with plenty of parking nearby but be warned if you aren't familiar with this area. Do NOT use Google Maps. They will take you to an area that doesn't really exist. Instead go up 16th to Rhode Island. Much much easier--trust. As of me writing this, Project One only serves wine, beer and soju on a consistant basis. I have a feeling this will change though (particularly after seeing everyone happily consuming their Jameson drinks at this last party). BTW, to the guy who came by and gave us a full bottle of Jameson, did my alcohol fairy* tell you I was there? How else would you know that I love Jameson and had only moments before uttered the words "I don't want to wait in line again, so this might be my last drink". Because of you Mr. Bar Man, I was one inebriated social butterfly eagerly pouring out the Jameson simultaneuosly letting me relive my clubbing days of the past and ensuring that cructial hangover in the morning. Thank you very much but I will have to say that even without this little kick down, I had a blast and would still given you the proper you deserve. My alcohol fairy*--no this is not a cute nickname for my favorite gay bartender; my alcohol fairy is like a guardian angel except instead of ensuring my safety he/she also likes to make sure that I get my drink on. Seriously, just come out with me one night or ask John H. The strangest things happen that result in free/ cheap booze.

Woodfire Grill serves seasonally influenced Northern California cuisine. Chef Michael Touhy stresses locally grown organic produce , meat and seafood. Whatever is on the menu that day is based on what is available and in season. The vegetable you put in your mouth this evening, was harvested that very morning, not 3 weeks ago in another part of the world. The interior is very warm, intimate and inviting, with semi-private rooms in the back for larger parties. And ahhhhh....the smell of the grill, and all the associations of sitting around a fire that are summoned! I waited a long time to vist this place, and when I did go, the wait was so worth it. For an appetizer we had the Squash Blossoms stuffed with herbs and mascarpone with a sweet corn sauce. The melted in your mouth and the corn sauce was perfect compliment of tastes. This apertif did what an appetizer is supposed to do. All the different flavors were distinct and complimentary. And when the plate was finished, our appetite was whetted for more. For an entree, my dining partner had the Organic Vegetables plate. Chef Touhy is one of the few chefs who knows how to prepare vegetables. He treats them with the same importance as a meat or seafood dish. Each vegetable was not overcooked, and was very tasty, with a blend of different flavors. I had the tuna prepared raw, and it was melt in your mouth quality tuna. We finished our meal with a tasting of 3 artisan cheeses that were splendid and unique. Our server was very knowledgable of the menu and especially the wine selection. I cannot recommend the Woodfire grill highly enough. It was an extremely pleasureable dining experience.
