Since I live in ATL, there are probably a dozen other restaurants that I would have chosen to go to for dinner last Friday, but we went to Woodfire Grill because we had a friend in town from NY who wanted to go to "Kevin's restaurant." I had been told once that Woodfire is "the kind of place people take their conservative parents when they are in town." And now that I've been there I realize that's actually the perfect description. Don't get me wrong - the service was great (very friendly and on top of things - some of the best I've had in ATL in a long time), and our food was all very good. Simply prepared and well cooked. The bottom line is that for what we paid (or maybe $20 more) we could have gone to Bacchanlia and had an amazing, creative and memorable dining experience. For the price, Woodfire just isn't exciting or inventive enough.

Scenario: Barrister's Ball (aka Law Prom) and we're all dolled up. Product: Drink prices were okay, as in not quite to $10.  The place was very swank with a dance floor upstairs and down.  Unfortunately, the upstairs wasn't open right away so it got pretty crowded early on. Service:  No beer on tap.  Really?!?  The 'tenders did seem to hustle pretty well. Atmosphere: The private part of the ball was nice.  Once opened to the public the collars started popping.  The neighborhood is Broadway, or is it broad way, as in a bunch of drunk broads, smoking, wearing baby doll dresses standing in your way in the middle of the street as you try to fend off the strip joint reverse-bouncers. Uniquity: Moral of the story, wherever Barrister's Ball is, it's fun.  If you like fancy clubs check this out, but if you like plain old cheap beer dives like I do then there are plenty of better places just a couple blocks away.

Marquee Marquee Marquee... perhaps one of the most talked about clubs in New York. Every Friday and Saturday night when you pass by 10th Ave. you'll see a hoard of people on the sidewalks, and they're either in line for Marquee, or have left and are ready to jump into one of the dozen yellow cabs on the street. If I had known what it was all about inside, I would've skipped it. But my friends had brought me here, and we were able to skip the line because our friend inside came out to bring us in. We each paid $20 to get in (rip off!). Inside there are 2 floors. The first floor is house music, with blue lighting and somewhat futuristic decor. House music here is the only redemption for the place. Upstairs is hiphop music and quite dark. This place is filled with girls - just girls, girls, girls everywhere. For you guys you may want to drop a visit, but I'll definitely skip next time around. I just don't get the hype over this place. Not worth it.
