by Eydie C. on Went here to celebrate my b-day with my girlfriends... I was looking for something fun, funky, and very LA. I'm so happy to say I found La Velvet Margarita to be all of those things and more! They open late, so we had a couple of drinks at Kitchen 24 next door while we waited. I am not complaining! Once we walked in we were pleasantly surprised at the dark, romantic decor of this place, as the outside appearance gives the impression that the interior will be somwhat of a... dump. Well far from it! The tall booths were covered in plush, deep colored velvets... Mariachi sombreros lined the ceiling, and spinning piñatas hung in rows above us. The music was genius... We heard spanish covers of everything from Elvis classics to Roy Orbison and my heart was smiling the whole time. Our waiter was adorable, a little sweetheart, just flirty enough to remain harmless, never crossed the line into perv territory. We each ordered something different so we could share and everything was DEELISH! The chicken enchiladas were sooo heavenly! The green sauce was like crack. The margaritas were so good and icey! And one was even served in a pineapple! I can't remember which one it was, but it was good! And it was in a pineapple!! I could drink milk out of a pineapple and feel like a bad, bad girl. One of my sneaky biznatch girls told someone it was my birthday and they brought me little pieces of warm, crispy, gooey, apple-y goodness called the Apple Empanadas ala mode... OH. MY. GOD --- I will be back very soon for some more of those!
