by Rikki Grillo on I've gone here less than a handful of times because the Avalon rarely hosts concerts from the bands I like. I've never gone to the Avalon for the dance club it is- no thanks! I am not a typical Asian ho and have no desire to line up only to get inside and find myself surrounded by douchebags and other whores. As strictly a music venue, it's pretty good. It feels like a shorter version of the Wiltern. The last time I was there was for a (FREE!) Blackberry Storm release party where Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age played. Screaming and singing at Dave Grohl rocking right in front me = legendary. And the security staff there was really kick back, so kick back that one of 'em enjoyed dancing as he "guarded" the front rail area. Oh, and they didn't search me at all. I got to bring mywater bottle in without even trying to hide it. It's also a very easy and short walk away from the Hollywood/Vine red line station. Don't park at the adjacent lots unless you want to fork over $25. There's a couple of other parking lots going towards Sunset that are less than $10.
