ATMOSPHERE: Upon walking into the restaurant the first thing I noticed was how cramped it was. Apparently, it was converted from an old house to give some southern charm. You can literally hear and feel the floor creaking and shaking when people are walking around. It was very distracting. The entrance to the upstairs portion of the restaurant is almost literally in the kitchen. There was way too much traffic and confusion between the customers and the staff. Sitting near that area was not a fun experience. Also, the tables are very close to each other so there is not much privacy. FOOD: Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I tried the Chicken and Dumplings (buttermilk-brined and pan-seared boneless chicken thighs, farmer's cheese dumplings, wilted Swiss chard, andouille gravy). The first few bites were good but after a few minutes, it just became too much. There was sooooo much gravy that it felt more like a soup! After few bites, my arteries just gave up. I also tried the chicken noodle soup which was decent. SERVICE: Great staff. No complaints. Overall, I didn't enjoy the food too much. Like I said, maybe I just didn't know what to get. South City Kitchen gives it a good effort but my experience just fell a little short. My arteries and I would be willing to give it another go.

Went here for NYE and had a great time. The setup is excellent, although the dance floor could be a bit larger. There are two bars in the main room, including a circle bar in the middle of the venue, which makes getting drinks super easy. Also, there is an upstairs lofty looking portion that has another bar. It's open until 4am, which is rare for LA so if you're lookin for a hot spot to party at after hours, this is the place to go.
