by Neely M. on I went to see MSTRKRFT here on November 14th. I have to admit, I wouldn't normally frequent a mega-club like Vanguard. I am not a fan of covers or lines or a scene, in general. But how do I deny the incredible MSTRKRFT? I don't, that's how. Over all it was a good experience for the most part. Drinks were kinda $$$ but I expected that at a place such as Vanguard. The sound system was definitely amazing - big plus for that one. I was really surprised at how minimalist the techno was before the boys cam eon. I figured it would be trancier or a little more melodic for the mainstream. I put in many years a sa raver so I thin kI had my fill of minimalism. Thanks. The outside space was really pretty and the bar was pretty available. The whole place is lined with empty cabanas (at leats that night, not a single one was taken) but they are patrolled pretty heavily so don;t think yo uare gonna take a load off on that cozy cushion, bub. Nowhere to sit inside except for bottle service areas, as far as I could tell. Sometimes I need to rest my tootsies, ya know? Bummer. Yes, I did end up in convo with a girl who was totally e-tarded and she kinda bugged but it was easily escapable. She tried to kiss me, I turned the other cheek, as jeebus would tell me to. Actually, Jeebus being a man and all, I am sure he would have hooted and hollered and egged on the make-out. Ugh. Long story short, I would go back for another show, specifically, but it's not on my list of Saturday night boogie-down spots. Ok, it might be on the list but it's pretty near the bottom, right around standing outside an open car with the speakers bumpin'. Actually, scaratch that - the car wins.
