I'm sorry, but I just don't really dig the meatpacking district with all of its trendy bars and uber-expensive stores. Lines and red velvet ropes just aren't my scene. However, once in a blue moon, friends will drag me "downtown" to go out. I've decided that it's worth it, if only to see how high women will tolerate their heels to go when walking on cobblestone streets. And, more recently, how scantily clad people are willing to dress when the temps drop into the 40s (ummm, 'scuse me, but that dress could double as a shirt, and you look miserable). Ajna Bar, which used to be the Buddha Bar, is one of those ridiculous places. You have to know people to skip the line, otherwise it's just not worth the wait. It's your average loud, trendy venue with red lights and music so loud that your ears will ring for hours afterwards. But my martini was $14 and so strong it knocked me on my arse, the music was great for dancing, I met a bunch of interesting people, and if you have friends from out of town, it's quite the scene. Get your trendy dance on, NYC!!!!

CLARIFICATION: This is NOT a review page for Vanguard the venue. That page is here: http://www.rateclubs.com/bi...This page is for DEEP which happens on SUNDAY nights at Vanguard. With that said, if you love house music, and I mean LOVE house music, then this is definitely the night and place for you. If you love gettin down dirty on the dancefloor then please...get down and dirty. What I love about DEEP is its consistency for bringing the best house DJs from all over the world every week to LA. Unless there's a huge event going on, you can usually get in with only waiting in line a few minutes. But even if you have to wait in line, it's worth it. The venue is large and the sound system is fantastic. And the only dress code is "comfortable." Usually it's a late crowd, so if you show up at 10:30 and it looks pretty empty, there's a 99% chance it'll be packed by 1:00 because a lot of people stay til closing at 4:00. And it's not the type of place to hook up or "be seen." If that's the kind of spot you're looking for, this isn't the place for you. Check out Area or Boulevard3. This spot is for dancers, house music lovers, and people who just wanna have fun. Of course, everyone is welcome, don't get me wrong. But here, it's all about the music. So forget your heels ladies and break out your jeans and Chuck Taylors. It's about to get DEEP.

well, the ART-chitechs have done it again. they wasted alot of money and space. tables on the dance floor-duh! all the best supper venues have booth/banquette seating around the outside for a reason. the stage is set up to play the short throw of the room so the stereo field is soooooo wiiiiide that if you're on one side there's no way you hear the other. the drinks are too expensive. $5 for a pint of lager? get a grip. and the booking agent that opened this place is a friggin genius but of course he hasn't been booking there in ages. when they first opened the calendar was amazing. national acts and good local talent. nowadays this place blows. it's mostly local acts with WAY too many acts on the bill, a sure sign that the people booking this joint don't have a clue. IF THE ACTS THAT YOU'RE BOOKING DON'T SELL ENOUGH TICKETS AND YOU HAVE TO PUT MORE ACTS ON THE BILL... THE BANDS SUCK AND YOUJ NEED TO GET NATIONAL ACTS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE. IF WE WANT TO SEE CRAPPY BANDS, WE'LL GO TO THE KHYBER. complete turnaround and a complete disappointment, upstairs just flat out sucks. don't waste your time and money. the booking guy that opened this place has moved on to do shows at the sellersville theatre. that place is a little gem.
