by Tiana Lupkin on Yes, it's pretentious. Yes, it's pricey. Yes, there are tons of d-bags hanging out all over the place. But c'mon, it's a club. What do you expect? Maybe I haven't been to the right places, but I've been clubbing in NYC, LA, SF and Miami and to be honest, it's not really a club without those elements. As long as you've braced yourself for these things, you'll have a good time. I've been here VIP and non-VIP and truly, the VIP is worth it. Especially VIP in the less crowded outdoor cabana area. I don't really care for schmoozing with celebrities or anything, but if you ever want to take a break and sit-down or you have a large group (6+), dishing out a little extra dough saves you money and comfort in the long run. Then again, I don't go clubbing very often (maybe once every couple of months) so it's not a large expense for me. Music is good (house, hip-hop, top 40 mixes) for dancing and the atmosphere is decent.
by Brenda R. on Okay, so everyone who has been here knows that this place is right literally near the Tenderloin district, and there are lots of bums in this district, lots of them. I parked in the garage on the corner of Mason and Derby I think. Anyway, my friend, her man, and my man, and I all walk up to the club, and we are literally stopped by a bum who opened up her coat and lifted up her shirt to show us her colostomy bag (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a poop bag). Then she laughed and said, "Hahah now gimme dollar." We didn't give her a dollar, and luckily security shooed her away. And she's just one of the panhandlers lurking outside the club. There are plenty more, and if you step outside for one second to get some fresh air or to hang with your friend who's lighting a cigarette, or you're just smoking yourself, you WILL be asked for some loose change. First of all, inside the club is gorgeous. It looks like it used to be an old theater of some sort that has been renovated and remodeled. The architecture inside is just amazing. Anyway, the place was pretty hoppin at about 11:30 (we got there about 11:00). Although the music isn't really my style, I did have a lot of fun. Their bar is so-so. It isn't really big, and I think they're overpriced, but that's how lots of bars in clubs are. I mostly jumped up and down the whole night I was there, since that was the beat of the music! Also, hey had chicks come out and hang on drapes that hung from the ceiling down to the floor. Then some other chicks dressed up as Native Americans (headdress and all) except in bikinis and walking on stilts. That was pretty cool too. So in conclusion, I think the venue deserves 3.5 stars, and the club experience is worth 2 stars, but maybe my experience from the time I went was heightened by the alcohol. Also, I only had to pay $15 for my pre-sale ticket (which is basically your cover fee when you purchase it online). You bring your ticket, present it to the bouncers, and you can go right on it. Fastest and easiest way to get in, AND that was on a Saturday night. One last thing - it IS like a rave in there, minus people doing those crazy arm gestures...
