The Edison is a truly unique place to hang out with friends during Happy Hour. You'll get a ticket at the door for a 35 cent drink which is a pretty good deal if you think about it. Upon entering The Edison, there's a sitting/smoking lounge that has replicas of T. Edison's inventions, which include the Ediphone. It's a neat waiting room to just look at the these items. Going downstairs is a treat. There is a main bar just right off the stairs, lit up with very dim old style power plant light bulbs. In the opposite direction there is another bar against the wall. Old movies played on each walls which made this place really unique. Happy hour is from 5 to 7 PM. You can have your 35 cent drink or order other drinks from the menu for 40% off the listed price. Food-wise you can order appetizers such as Kobe slider, grilled cheese sandwich, veggie sandwich, buffalo wings, and calamari for $5 each. Each plate includes either Edison (potato) or Tesla (sweet potato) fries. We shared the Kobe, wings, and calamari. It's your typical bar food it they were average. There's also a full dinner should you prefer having supper. Service was just awesome. The waitress was very pleasant, helpful in explaining how things work if this was your first visit (which it was for all of us!), and very professional. She was very attentive but less so when the place got really busy. Food arrived to our table pretty quickly. It was all good... Here's the not-so-good... This place is hella dark! If 10 people were to walk down that flight of stairs to the lower level, it's a guarantee that 1 of them will certainly fall! It took a long time for my eyes to adjust...or did they? Second, that 35 cent drink ticket is good for only two drinks: a daiquiri or a martini. However other drinks are 40% off during the hours of 5-7 PM. Third, the folks in charge of letting people in did a rather poor job in reinforcing the dress code. On the website, it specifically states that athletic shoes and torn jeans are frowned upon but I've seen a few customers wearing just that! Why did we bother to dress up then? The Edison is a really neat place. I enjoyed the ambiance and liked how the place retained some items from the former Edison power plant (generators, gages, lighting). Retaining "old building" items such as those really made my experience at The Edison worth it. It is a must-see.

i dont know how i do not have a review for them on here yet? 1. its my favorite bar 2. i have pics from there on my page... any ways... this is one of the best bars in the city. i can see how it seems a little marinaish but the drinks are great. they have some of the craziest people partying there. it can get stuffy and a little smelly but its soo worth it. you would never tell from the outside what is really going on inside. thecover is a little ridiculous cause again it is in the mission but i think its not too bad. if it were 20 then wed have issues. the music here is great. you can dance here all night on the stage. they have mini lounge in the middle and a large table by the bar. i have never had a bad time at this bar. i recommend that everybody goes and has a wonderful time with good people and great speciality drinks.

Swirl here, taste there, I went here for SF wine week and the flavors were all there. A mix of people from the "I am a superior wine taster" to your two buck chuck and box wine expert, "Quantity over quality". There was a taste for most pallets. When entering you have a choice between the darkside or the light. The path of light leads you to the gallery space was nice, but got a tad warm with all the lights. The dark, you'll be escorted by the bar tempting you with spirits that could lead you either way. The lounge is dark with nice couches which again can lead you into many directions. Which path will you take?
