Oh Ruby Skye how I loathe thee...you are the epitome of everything I hate about my generation. A 1000 times NO!

Saturday was the second time we've been to Morimoto. The first time it was brand new and we were just getting into eating at fancy restaurants so we stuck with a pretty uninspiring menu. But, that was then, and this is now... Morimoto is a cool looking place. From the all the white exterior to the pod like under the water interior, you get a sense you're in a different kind of a restaurant. We arrived early and went upstairs to the bar.  It's a very tiny bar with low tables and a frameless window that you can look down at the people below.  You can order sushi and regular food up there so if you don't have a reservation and still want to try it, make your way upstairs.  Morimoto has his own beer line. Who knew? I ordered the Hazelnut Ale. It was a dark beer with hints of hazelnut and a malty aftertaste. Very enjoyable! We didn't wait that long before getting seated. There were four of us and we decided to just order lots of stuff instead of sticking to one entrée per person. Here's the breakdown of our dinner (in the order it arrived): Chef's selection of sushi and sashimi platter - we went with the middle of the line chef's sushi package for $50. It was a lot sashimi and 6 tuna rolls. We liked the rolls so much that we wanted to try some salmon rolls. They were good, but not as good as the tuna ones.  Also, the most interesting thing on the plate was pound cake. Pound cake made with shrimp paste. Very interesting, but good too. Soba Carbonara - Soba noodles with Edamame, bacon, and cream sauce.  EXCELLENT. Probably one of the best things we ate all night long. The surf and turf -This was the best sounding thing on the entire menu. Kobe beef, black pepper and sesame crusted main lobster with brown butter for $49. It was also the most disappointing thing we got. The meat was tough to cut with the spork like fork. The lobster was just a big miss.  It 's a sin not to finish kobe beef so it was all eaten, but still... Duck Duck Duck - this is one of the new items on the menu. I am not a big fan of duck so this dish really had to be amazing to win me over. It wasn't. I know that duck is served a little under done, but it seemed really on the rare side. (or maybe i had hit my raw limit)  It was served with risotto topped with a sunny side up duck egg. The egg was supposed to be broken over the risotto, the egg yolk then flavoring the risotto.  I don't even think we ate half of this dish. Wasabi Fried Rice - I was the only person that wanted to order this as a side, but everyone loved it. It tied with the carbonara for being the best dish. I should end with saying that our waitress, Alexi, was very nice. I think she was one of the best servers we've had in a very long time. To sum up, Morimoto is worth going, but it's easy to get lost in all the hype.

The decor was great-we didn't come to eat just to hang out at the bar on a Wed evening after we waited to get into Tenjune across the street. There were a lot of people in there... We had fun-if you're a smoker you don't even have to go outside. They have a little chamber in the middle of the restaurant which is nice in the winter...
