by Flor Benion on I'm not sure why so many people have had less than stellar experiences at East Side Showroom. After hearing about this place for months, it's now one of my favorite spots. I fell in love as soon as I stepped inside; the decor really does it for me. I wish my apartment looked so cute, cozy, and comfortable - yet remaining stylish! I was instantly greeted and offered a table, but I chose one of the adorable red and white striped barstools at the bar. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, and he crafted me some great gin cocktails. The cocktails may normally be a bit pricey, but classic cocktails are only $5 during happy hour. Amazing. It was nearly hypnotic watching the bartenders craft these masterpieces at the bar. When friends arrived, we ordered more drinks and a few half-price appetizers. The service was prompt and attentive - we always had drinks in front of us and never had to wait long for our second and third cocktails. East Side Showroom is actually on all of our lists of new-to-us favorite places in town.
by Jayne Mcmeans on I should have heeded all the other reviews that talk about how awful this place is, but noooo, I had to do the whole "let me see for myself" thing. BIG MISTAKE!! This place IS as bad as people say. So my husband and I decide to go on a Saturday night because they were advertising free admission for ladies (before midnight) and gents (before 11) and a one hour open bar (10-11). My husband and I get there at 10:30 and we're all excited because we're thinking we're both getting in for free and we can score a couple of free drinks...ha, yeah right. So I found out that ladies are free, but guys weren't (and had to pay $30!!). I put up a fuss and was about to leave when this one doorguy ended up giving my husband a comp ticket, so we figured we're here, let's just have a drink and check the place out. I asked one of the bartenders if there are specific open bar specials (usually open bars are just well drinks, etc.) and of course he looks at me like I'm speaking anything but English and eventually tells me that there's no open bar. I just about had it right there. The music was bad (some really awful hip hop), the decor is crap (don't be deceived by pictures), and most of the people that work there are unhelpful. I go out to destress, not add stress to my life. It's too bad we can't give a place zero stars. This is my first time rateclubsing because I was so turned off by this place, I just had to let others know.
by Kelly B. on Jillian's is hard to put a finger on because it's so many things. Upscale arcade and bowling, dance club, bar, pool hall and a couple different restaurants. For the purpose of my review, I'm going to focus on the arcade. I'm a skee-ball fiend and it has some premium lanes. The whole arcade is very clean and well maintained. It can be pretty crowded with families of kids but you have to remind yourself that you are on their turf. The downside is that Jillian's uses one of those "credit card" point systems that makes it a little harder to keep track of how much you are actually spending on games. What ever happened to the honest 1 quarter to 1 token ratio?!
