by Lyndia Buckwalter on this venue has the worst sound quality out of any priced NYC venues. Ariel Pink's set was practically ruined, with hair-raising high-pitched frequencies arising every few minutes from the mic. the same thing happened for Os Mutantes, but fortunately their crisper and more acoustic-oriented sound played better. another crime: $8 beers in a cup that aren't even filled to the brink... like 3/4 a beer. stay away from the bar directly across from the stage, and instead go for the bar on the side near the bathrooms. you can get $8 Goose Island IPA's there, where it's actually filled to the top. unless an absolutely amazing artist is playing here and nowhere else (which would be a shameful decision by their management), I'll be avoiding this horrible venue.
by Carly T. on I have been going to mjq for a few years now and its really worn out its cool image nowadays. I use to religiously go there every wednesday night with all of my friends and get trashed and dance and stumble home muttering "best....night....ever!" But then i realized i was only having fun cause i was HAMMERED! I went on the wagon and discovered that it is now, mostly, an overhyped playground for hipster douchebags. Too much attitude and not enough good music. Its a blast if you are too drunk to see...so i guess that gives it 2 stars? On a side note....the drunken unicorn still puts on amazing shows with great bands. I am just over the dance party. I guess im just getting old?
