by Annalisa Karlovich on my husband and I went here after hearing rave reviews for our wedding anniversary. my husband said after eating the food, "only death will be the remedy for the disgusting food served at mamajuana." lol. he's a bit dramatic.. my husband ordered the churrasco, i had some and it tasted good a bit dry and verrrry chewy, it was quite a workout eating it. Cafe Cortadito is way better. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly however I was a little scared when the waiter asked me how I wanted it cooked.. the potatoes or whatever it was served with tasted like nothing- i can't compare it to anything because it didn't taste like anything. I didn't want to give up hope so we tried the tres leche for dessert. boy was that a mistake, it was like sponge cake, it was stale and the ice cream that they topped it with tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer for way too long that it was not creamy no longer rather had the texture of icycles. I told my husband maybe it was because we went on a Monday evening and there wasn't much people there.. regardless.. we will not be going there again, unfortunately, very disappointed. regarding service, our waiter was negligent but kind.
by Connie C. on I'd never heard Minnie Driver sing before. Actually, I didn't even know she was a singer/songwriter. So when a friend invited me to see the Hollywood actress perform at the intimate and modest Cafe du Nord last night, I was very intrigued. I met my friend inside the famous former speakeasy, where he had secured a great table to the right of the stage with dinner reservations. We were fairly close up, and it was nice to have seats and not be crammed on the floor with the crowd. I would not have been happy if I had to stand next to the obnoxious drunkie who kept yelling "I LOVE YOU MINNIE!!" in between every song. Our server was very friendly and took good care of us throughout the night. The typical bar food was decent and cheap -- drinks and food for two was about $30. So if you want a seat during a show, definitely make dinner reservations. Minnie Driver was great. I was very pleasantly surprised by her performace. She has a really beautiful folksy voice, and her band was amazing. She brought a lot of positive energy to the stage and totally charmed the audience. I was able to get into pretty much every one of her songs, which was very cool considering I had never heard her music before. The venue fit her perfectly... warm and charming.
