Um, $16 a drink?  AND a $6.80 service charge on top of that?  Are you serious??? Save your money and go elsewhere.  There are plenty of other great places in New York that won't rip you off.

a year later, i finally made a trip to the new academy of sciences. im glad we chose the "nightlife" over a regular day. first off, the tickets are half price for thursday night. second, it is 21+ meaning no annoying kids running around. third, they had alcohol and a dj all night! all the exhibits are open, but a couple close a little earlier. we got there around 20 minutes early. there was a decent-sized line, but it got much longer by the time it was time to enter. our first stop was the rainforest. this was very cool. butterflies and birds were just roaming around and there were plenty of other caged creatures to look at. next was the planetarium show. this was awesome. it was an imax type of deal where we felt like we were in a space-ship. this was worth the price of admission alone. the last main exhibit was the aquarium. they had plenty of different stuff to check out. my favorite was probably the giant sea bass and the albino croc. drinks and food are pretty expensive, but nothing too ridiculous($6 for a beer). you can't drink in the rainforest or in the planetarium, but you can drink in the aquarium. they even have a bar in the aquarium. the dj was cool, but that's not why we went there. overall, this is one of the best 4 hours you can possibly spend.

Walking in, we were greeted by 2 unpleasant bouncers who informed us that to get up to the "dance floor" we had to fork over $3. OK, so three bucks is nothing comparatively, but the place was empty at 10:00pm. So, it was early and no one was here just yet... The drinks were not as cheap as one would think for a bar with wood panelled walls, neon beer signs and cigarette machines. My beer was $6 and was served in a plastic cup. The roof top offered cans for $4.50 (GREAT PRICE EH?) We headed upstairs after getting our hands stamped. The dance floor was off to the side where bar tables would normally sit before 10. Crowded around the tiny dance floor was an eclectic younger sweaty crowd. Surrounding the dance floor were several middle aged guys looking for their next kill. The roof top was a nice change. Open air, heat lamps, tables, city view, a less crowded bar and decent size restrooms. Anyone living in Metro Detroit knows that Royal Oak is one of the more hip neighborhoods; Woody's just doesn't seem to fit this "trendy and urban-chic" city..unless you could walk to your college campus from downtown. Apparently "Woody's prides itself on being the only dance club in Royal Oak" however it's worth traveling a few extra miles to a bigger and better place to dance. I would visit again, only for the roof top experience.
