by Laure Poer on I can't think of anything bad to say about Cafe Lift...ok, yes I can. They ran out of tomatoes. And they only take cash. Now the good stuff: everything else. The canoli French toast is what I want from every brunch restaurant I've ever waited in line for...sweet, creamy, moist, delicious. I lived in AZ for years, and the huevos rancheros at Cafe Lift were as good as any I'd ever had there (Chicago still boasts the best I've ever had in the US... mexico's are pretty good too). Don't pass up the fennel sausage either. It's perfect. The service was nice and friendly, the atmosphere was cool and sophisticated. I HATE places that only take cash and then point to an in-house high-fee ATM when you show them your credit card, but hey...this is a five star review, no room for that type of negativity.
by Paul Kupiec on This place is good for the freshly-turned-21s, but if you are looking for class and maturity here, you may want to try elsewhere. Nice looking venue, but drinks are horribly overpriced, the ladies are trashy and ghetto, and the men... well, anyone who is not a ghetto thug gangsta wannabe is like a 2 foot tall Latino who tries to go for the hottest girl in the room and actually thinks he has a chance. Are you kidding me? The music is average (top 40s mainly) and I do love that they have two levels, but it's not fun at ALL when you're tipsy to walk down a flight of stairs and have even tipsier (wait, more like drunk to the point where they cannot stand, let alone walk!) girls following your down on the stairs in their 9-inch heels and you think in horror they are going to slip and fall into you and push you down the stairs as well. There is always a line for drinks at the bar, and a HUGE line to go to the restroom. I went a couple of times but quickly got sick of 2 foot tall guys asking me to dance and trying to grind on my leg the entire time, or these ultimate ghetto boys with their disgusting gold grills. No thank you suite 181. Not tonight, not tomorrow night, not next week, not EVER!
by Mike R. on The Orpheum Theatre is STUNNING. When you walk into the place you feel like you traveled back in time. We watched "In Search of a Midnight Kiss" @ the opening night of the 1st Annual Downtown LA Film Festival last night. Lots of people.. red carpet, paparazzi.. the whole 9. The theatre was beautifully restored.. I could've easily spent a couple of hours just sitting in my seat staring up @ the detail on the walls and ceiling. They should invest in some surround sound speakers cause the 2 ginormous speakers in the front didn't cut it. The seats are a bit uncomfy for taller people (like me) cause they lack leg room and the backs of chairs are REALLY erect. I had to slouch a little to keep from falling forward... that's how bad they were. We walked there so I can't speak on the parking situation.. but we did see a lot right next to the Broadway Bar. If they really want to bring The Theater back to LA Broadway they should spend the $$ to clean up Broadway itself. I felt so dirty walking around there that I had to take a shower when I got home.
