by Ernie Brevell on 4 tacos ordered: camarones nicks way and grilled fish regular way. place smells like an alcoholic mess. overpriced tacos (nick's way is not worth the extra dollars or extra calories). no free chips (how sad). salsa bland. gross bar/restaurant. felt sick afterwards. all this for $28. one star for the decent camarones.

by Lynn T. on If you are commitment-phobic, this very well may be the place for you... I often have a hard time figuring out exactly what I want, so Amalia is fantastic for the undecided... The answer: pick 3 items to sample. That's exactly what me and my friends did during a leisurely lunch one Friday afternoon (don't go here if you have to dine and dash)... The lunch special includes a choice of a prix fixe menu or a 3-appetizer sampling (which is what we all picked). Link to Prix Fixe Lunch Menu: http://www.amalia-nyc.... Yuummmm.... Portions were just right - neither scarce or overly abundant. My picks: Eggplant and Goat Cheese "lasagnette" oven roasted tomatoes, catapano goat cheese, basil Sliders-version of the Amalia Burger - taleggio, pickled red onion, bistro frites Fattoush Salad - arugula, mint, feta, toasted flatbread, lemon The restaurant was fairly empty (it also happened to be a rainy day), but the vibe was nice and relaxed. The decor is awesome -- a hidden gem here! I'd like to come back for late-night dinner with a larger group of friends and check out the bar scene.
