Everything I ever wanted to say about Oscar's I says it here: I really, truly don't want to spill the beans. No, I really don't want to tell you about the 24 ounce beers for three dollars. Or the ashtrays that get more butt than the Jonas Brothers, even after this bullshit "Smoke Free Philly" nonsense. You don't need to hear about the great selection from the classic jukebox, or the fact that the entire bar will sing along if you choose the right song. I can't tell you how many glasses are smashed on the floor each night, and how much the crowd gets riled up in the glass menagerie. I'll keep mum about the huge long island iced teas that, for 9 dollars, will make you slip off your bar stool. If I tell you, you'll go. And if you go, it won't be the cool ass, tight knit bar my friends and I know and love. If you go, maybe Oscar's will turn trendy; maybe they will up their prices and clean the bathrooms and start carding at the door. But if you read this review and find anything I just wrote even remotely enticing, I guess I can count you out of the yups around Center City; shit, maybe we could even get a beer sometime. We are long time Yoshi's patrons - dating back to the Claremont Avenue days! This weekend we visited the Yoshi's SF for the first time to catch Ramsey Lewis - who was wonderful as expected - and have some dinner before the show. The food was great - creative and tasty. The service was not so great - we waited a total of 40 minutes to get our dinner. Everyone around us got quick and efficient service - we were pretty much ignored until the first dish arrived and I borrowed the soy sauce from the table next to us! I think they noticed we were annoyed and the rest of the meal came in a flurry of activity with an extra calamari dish as a "gift" from the chef. No verbal apology but then why draw more attention to your mistake? The service in the bar was adequate - but I think they need more cocktail servers in the club - We had to wait for our bill after the concert was over and many people were finishing their drinks then so to Yoshi - staff up the club!! For those who consider Yoshi's expensive - your right! For us it is a date night thing so once in awhile we splurge. There are many sushi houses of equal quality at a much lower price point - but none of them have Ramsey Lewis playing in the next room! I will start with a three with the hope that we will be able upgrade it when we visit next - because we will be back for a concert and we will try dinner once again - but only once!

I had fun at Kress, but I have fun anywhere I go. I'm rating the club, not the restaurant (I didn't dine here), 2 stars. The "line" to get in the club was a disorganized mob of people in the back parking lot. There really didn't seem to be any order to madness, so if I didn't have a connection (thanks James and Paul!) to walk us in through the front, I definitely would have been discouraged at the sight of it and gone elsewhere. Once inside the club, we waited much too long for (more expensive than usual) bottle service. But the waitress was adorable and very friendly. Not much to say about the club itself. Crowd was decent, music was fine.. it was a typical club experience.
