by stephanie c. on Came here on a Saturday night. I was excited to check out this champagne lounge Ive heard much about. Unfortunately...did not enjoy the experience. The only great thing was no cover on a Saturday night. The place was packed. Upon entering, I expected a classy mood-lighting modern sleek venue being a champagne lounge. What I saw reminded me of the bars/pubs in Boston-exposed brick, dark decor, wooden cabin feel to it. Not at all the "bubbly" celebratory place I expected. Crowd was very young...the type that would probably ask me what my major is upon first meeting. Downstairs had a dj playing hiphop and a small dance floor. Music was soso. The ceiling is so low downstairs it really felt like a tiny hot basement with poor air circulation. The only good thing about this was that it never took a long time to get drinks at the bar. Other than that...not my style. I would not come again. I expected a little more class.
by Lucius Kowall on It was my first time visiting this joint and only after hearing fun things about this place, I was stoked to try it out. It was girls night tonight and we had a blast trying out their tapas spread as well as slurping down our sangrias with our signature green straws. If you ask me, their red wine sangria was better than their tapas selection but some might beg to differ. I've had great tapas food before but it was all of course back home in Chicago. Needless to say, the tapas I had tonight at Loca Luna was just alright. What made me more pleased with this restaurant was the rockin' wait service and pleasant atmosphere. Tonight is a Thursday night and they had a live salsa band rocking it out by 8pm or so. I guess this restaurant is also a great place to break out the salsa moves when it turns into a full salsa club on certain nights. I promised I'd go back again to "sweat" on the dance floor while shaking it with my boyfriend on the dance floor, so this will definitely give me a chance to update my review. Don't get me wrong....the tapas menu is certainly NOT horrible by any means. I've just had slightly tastier and more authentic dishes in the past, at other tapas joints. I am no expert when it comes to tapas but I was digging my glass of red wine sangria more than what was presented in front of me. Definitely check this place out and judge for yourself. Their HALF OFF tapas menu during happy hour is a great deal so there's no reason not to pay Loca Luna a visit!
