I really loved the old cafe, but the new one is very pretty and shiny! Although the clientèle has changed a bit, there is still a bit of the old cafe crowd around. The drinks are a bit pricey, but after an expensive remodel I guess you can expect that. If you want a good time with good music and you don't do badlands, this is the best place for you! :)

I have found myself here quite a few times with friends, and I would never have thought to mention it as one of my favorite places. Similar to how I would never think to say that "Amadeus" is one of my favorite movies but, weirdly enough, it is the movie I generally turn to when I need to just watch a movie. So, other than "The Big Lebowski," I think it's the movie I've seen the most. Little Baobab is my "Amadeus," and I didn't realize this until I found myself suggesting this place to an out of town guest of mine the other night. The service can be a bit lackadaisical but whatever, like YOU'VE got any place else to be tonight. The food is yummy - tofus and meatses in various sauces, and I always get my tofu with a side of couscous. And plaintains. YUM. I like Little Baobab for ambiance a bit more than Big Brother Baobab, but granted I've only gotten drunk at BBB, not eaten there. The drinks are just as good at Little Baobab, and ordering a deliciously fruity and stiff cocktail by the pitcher is always a good idea. Yes, GOOD idea.

Oil Can Harry's was my first bar. As the token fag hag in a group of semi fabulous gay men, I served as the pre male entertainment by holding my own at the bar with the guys. Except this bar was filled with men, and only men. And they were all much prettier then me. Oil Can Harry's has buff male dancers in little shorts, techno music, bi bartenders (so everyone can flirt) and some strip contests. They also are home of an event on Wednesdays "MaleBox" where you are given a number and it corresponds to a mailbox, and people can leave you notes in your mailbox (and they do.) There are apparently events and specials every other night of the week, but I haven't checked em out. The crowd is usually loud and friendly and for those who don't want to dance there is a pool table in the back. Oilcans is the "dirtier" of the two 4th street gay bars, but I like it more. This is much more a gay joint then a lesbian one for some reason...They have two inside bars and an outside area. So come, have a drink and dance the night away.
