I can't believe how much I enjoyed their Tuesday Night Special. Get ready for this. They have a really good Crispy Fried Chicken with spicy Korean dipping sauce. The fried chicken is chopped into smaller pieces than your typical western style. You combine that with the batter on the outside, and at times it's hard to tell which section of the chicken you're going to bite into. I kinda liked this; it was like a grab bag, or a box of chocolates, or a bag of scrabble letters. Anyway, if you know how to eat around bones, you'll be fine. What's better than their really good Crispy Fried Chicken (with spicy korean dipping sauce)?, the Pork Katsu. It has a breaded exterior that stays crunchy. The pork cutlets themselves aren't overcooked, which I found amazing considering the rate with which they churn these suckers out (more on that point later). Furthermore, the Pork Katsu comes with the most righteous of Korean-inspired smothers. I smothered the pork Katsu with them, I smothered the chicken with them, and at one point I experimented by smothering my salad with them (ill-advised indeed). And finally, they serve a house wine that agreed with the Chicken, the Pork, the Budweisers, and my stomach. One big happy... Oh right, what is their Tuesday Night Especial? All You Can Eat chicken, and pork. And, wait for it; All You Can Drink wine, and beer. $18 Done! And done!

A not so happy note about Trigger. Last night, 8/13/2009, the security staff exerted wayyyyy too much force on a patron, grabbing him by the glands of his neck until he collapsed in front of the establishment. Much more force than necessary. The management and owner of Trigger, please deal with your out of line patrons in a non violent manner.

Dunno what's so Great or American about this music hall, but I DID see a DAMN GOOD show here recently led by Marcus Shelby performing  with his "sumptuously swinging orchestra." Shelby, "an elegant cat in the Duke Ellington vein whose music draws on the rich sounds of Ellington and his main man Billy Strayhorn, Miles Davis and Gil Evans" shared the San Francisco Jazz Festival bill with pianist Jon Jang's septet, who played a new piece celebrating a barrier-crossing SF teacher, "Unbound Chinatown: A Musical Tribute to Alice Fong Yu." It was a great set - they only played parts of the 2 hr piece. The Hamburger was $12 ... but DAMN GOOD. But $12, before tip is on the rici-amous side of things. They were out of the seared Ahi, so minus a star for that, too. 3.5 stars, because it was a $25 cover. And it's not like it's going to the musicians... The downstairs/backstage area is sweet, with a couple of warm-up rooms, hallways to duck away into, a co-ed bathroom (yeah, college dorms), and a dressing room decorated in oldschool style. Artists Performing in the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra: * Faye Carol, Kenny Washington, Jeannine Anderson, Joseph Mace, vocalists,     * Dave Scott, trumpet,     * Mike Olmos, trumpet (who is currently on tour with Etta James!)     * Darren Johnston, trumpet,     * Joel Ryan, trumpet,     * Danny Grewen, trombone    * Marc Bolin, trombone * Scott Larson, trombone    * Tom Griesser, baritone sax    * Evan Francis, tenor sax and flute (of the awesome band, Spaceheater)     * Marcus Stephens, alto sax    * Gabe Eaton, alto sax    * Rob Barics, tenor sax and clarinet    * Adam Shulman, piano    * Jeff Marrs, drums    * Marcus Shelby, bass and bad-ass conductor.
