by Cat H. on Bordello is really a strange spot. The decor is beautiful. They possess a bar and I've seen food come out of the kitchen. Otherwise, I'm not what you'd call a "fan." Apart from that, they attract the typical downtown LA hipster douches that I try to avoid. They fill the venue with either crappy local bands playing or fat "burlesque" dancers. The crowd is either hipster or fat bikers. Meh. No thank you. But, if you want a spot to go that's out of the norm, where you can drink and dance and laugh at the fools around you, this is the spot. It's not a destination spot so much as it's a I was in the neighborhood and decided to pop in and have a drink spot. I've been here a couple of times and each time was supportive of whoever's kitschy themed bday it was, but always left shaking my head wondering how I find the strangest places in LA to go drinking at.

I went to SOB twice about two years back in college, to check out new scene and rock on a new music genre! My girlfriend hosted her 22nd birthday base and it was a blast -- no table require, generally a great live band. It's mostly older generation, late 20s to 40 who seeks this place for a night of fun. Our group felt out of place at first but it was definitely worth checking out. Depending on who's playing each night, the cover fluctuates, so check out their website and info prior to each visit. I wouldn't mind going back for old time sakes. Latin music is definitely refreshing, after hearing so much of hip-hop and hop in a typical night scene.
