Is Fourteen licensing the Michael Mina name? This place does not seem like a legit Mina franchise. The ginormous XIV shrub was the first sign for me to RUN but I stayed composed since: 1. it was a date and 2. I've had decent meals at Aqua -where he was the Executive Chef in the 90s- to the SF staple Michael Mina. I forced myself to focus on the company and try at the very least, to enjoy my food (eating is my hobby.) Well. I sat through seven or eight courses I barely touched and instead, immersed myself in conversation. Never stepping foot in here again. Shame on you, Chef Mina, for tainting your name with this establishment that serves bastardizations of your usually decent menu. Note: the two stars are for completely unrelated reasons: +1 star for the kind and gracious staff. Our server reduced my meal price to barely an appetizer, as I took one or two bites of every course. Actually my date and the server thought I was ill from the appetizer we sent back. Even my date agreed the tuna drowning in a ponzu mess was unacceptable. LOL Plus another star, for I think my date mistook me as someone who doesn't eat. He's already invited me on a second date to [drumroll please] The Restaurant at L'Ermitage, baby! The poor dude has no idea what he's gotten himself into, as The Restaurant has teeny portions of delicious food and ya. Those of you who know me in real life, know I can eat. Like, man vs food throw down. Score!

We made reservations and were seated promptly. The dining room is very large and has a nice ambiance. Our waitress was friendly and assisted with our menu selection. Although, she didn't mention that side items are separate. The spicy tuna rolls were yummy. The rib eye steak was good but a little salty. I would recommend this restaurant. My friend brings his clients here, whenever they are in town. The meat packing district is a nice and trendy area.

The mexican pizza here is good. There's a cute girl who doesn't work there but will come up to your table and start talking to you and all your friends and you'll feel quite special and then you realize she's really drunk and she is really determined to get your true opinion on the food and then you realize she's actually emotionally involved with what you are saying and it starts to become a little uncomfortable for everyone. So that was fun. 4 stars!
