by Jacob M. on Whata ya have...whata ya have? How about directions to the exit and a handful of Tums! My friends and I recently visited Atlanta for the weekend. As soon as we got off the plane, we asked where we should stop first and everyone we spoke with mentioned "The Varsity". As I write this, I wonder if this is a cruel joke the locals pull on visitors. Sure, the place has some charm and I respect it has been around for decades, but do locals really eat here for the food or is it the nostalgia? The burgers had absolutely no taste, the drinks were watered down and the hotdogs? Two of the least appetizing dogs I have ever eaten. The chili had a little spice, but horrible flavor as it tasted like it had been simmering for 6 days in a luke warm pot. I covered the whole thing in mustard trying to drown the taste. I will not say anything about the fries other than nasty. Onion rings are decent though. Favorite memory is seeing the counter staff get irritated with watching you order. Really? Is a prison about to let out and this place is suddenly going to be busy? How about a little patience and a smile? I still rate James Coney Island hot dogs in Houston as my favorite and this place can't even compete. I don't care how many times this place has been on television, it's not worth your time.
