Our family group of 7 had a pleasant and tasty dinner there on a recent Sunday. It was mostly empty yet we had to call the waitress over for water refills, not too attentive. The music was very loud at first and then they turned it UP and we wanted to talk so we had to ask to turn it down. Other than the water and the music, all was well and we enjoyed it.

I went out with the volleyball harem last night and after a suggestion, we ended up here for Thursday happy hour eating good and half-priced appetizers, drinking good-n-cheap martinis and taking turns getting *manicures*? (add needle ripping across record sound effect) This may be just awful of me, but I must address a concern. I think Cuba Libre is doing too much here. I know the economy is rough and it's important to stay as fresh as possible to attract customers, particularly in a competitive downtown entertainment district with an educated clientele. But, as a general rule, I try to abstain from clipping my nails in my kitchen or in other people's kitchens or, however tempting it may be, while I'm around food at all. I mean, I understand that nail clippings may be a low-carb alternative to bread crumbs, but I just can't see adding them to my grocery list as a filler substitute much less taking the chance that someone else's may be in my Cuban crabby patty here. The manicurists were set up in a separate parlor, but I couldn't help but think last night about that stray nail clipping that undoubtedly flies across my bathroom every other Sunday and where Cuba Libre's kitchen was in relation to its separate nail parlor. Gawd, I feel terrible about this but I think if you have any hangups about mixing your dinner and your nail technician (like I apparently do), you might want to get over it before dining here. Drinks and manicures? All day long, baby. Drinks + food + manicures = too much to think about while out trying to have a nice time. Still three stars for cheap-n-good. And no one else at my table seemed to be worried about flying dead human parts.

I think I've had more fun in police custody. I don't know what the appeal of the Golden Temple is. I felt like I was hanging out in New Hampshire, because the only thing to do NH at night, is go to the local Chinese restaurant. :( If you are looking for club atmosphere, this place totally sucks. It kind of had the Saugus Rt 1 feel to it... not because it's a giant Chinese restaurant, but mostly the skanks at the bar. Who wants to stand around or dance while people are eating pu pu platters?! Chinese food = greasy surfaces and leaving with smelly clothes. I was suckered into going here last thursday and it was dead, but they had a DJ for some reason. I am not sure how he was paid... maybe a free pu pu platter? He played the WORST New Order remix. I know that the Hong Kong in Harvard Sq sucks, but at least they sort of have rooms that sort of have dance floors. If I lived in Brookline, and I wanted to "go out", I would NEVER consider going to the Golden Temple. Maybe this place is fun on Christmas Eve? The lighted walls almost reminded me of Shine in Kendall, and I know all of you hate that place. Don't go here for a night out. Maybe a bachelorette party or something... but totally the most boring thing, ever.
