If you haven't believed the other hundreds of people who have said to go to Woodfire Grill..believe me. Go now. Seriously...NOW! After hearing very good things about the restaurant...I decided it was time to try it myself. Being a fan of tasting menus, my party and I opted for the 7 course menu. Before the meal started...our server asked if any of us had food allergies, which I do. Pectin (fruit skins) is what I need to stay away from...so there were several courses where my dish was slightly different from everyone else's. In one case I had pickled green beans instead of peaches. In another I had beet rissoto instead of pickled quince. Basically...I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything because of allergy, which surprisingly nice. I would say a few of my favorites were the scallops and pork belly, but I can't honestly think of thing I didn't like. I also can't drink red wine...so when the pairings were red...our server gave me some great options of an alternate beverage for me. I must also say something about our server, who was hands down...one of the best servers I've ever had. She was very knowledgable with the dishes, as well as the wine pairings...and just very nice. One thing to note...reservations are a must. I also suggest to make them at least a week in advance, unless you're ok with eating at 530p or 930p. :) So what's stopping you...go to Woodfire Grill. NOW!

To anyone who might feel the two stars is a liiiiittle unfair, it's really for the food and not the bar experience. Consider it an average of a one star for the food and a three star for the bar. The bar is indeed a pleasant dive with funky wallpaper and cheap drinks. However. I do not give a sh*t about bars when there is FOOD to be had. Alas, I should have stuck to the bar at Waziema. We live a block away and I was SO EXCITED to have an Ethiopian restaurant so close. I adore Ethiopian food and would eat it every day if I had the energy to cook it/drive to LA/even walk to Axum to enjoy the deliciousness. Sigh. Because I *certainly* won't be enjoying it at Waziema. The menu was tiny-- hardly any choices. The injera was flavorless and stiff. The chicken was OK flavor wise (although the spiciness had a burning quality to it rather than the warming feeling I associate with Ethiopian food), but raw near the bone, which is disturbing in a slow-cooked dish. The veggie combination was just nasty... watery collards, other items so tasteless I actually cannot recall them. It was cheap, but we were incredibly disappointed nonetheless. Perhaps we came on an off night, but I will have to be feeling seriously optimistic to brave Waziema again. So sad.

I have nothing against snooty clubs. I honestly have nothing against "Face Control." There is nothing wrong with places that make you jump through hoops to get inside, or have rude waitstaff - as long as the experience is worth it. In the case of Sutra, the rudeness and the general overpriced atmosphere of the place is not. From not honoring promotions (guy brings in three girls, gets free cover - "$10 please!"), over priced drinks for Atlanta market ($9 for a cocktail!), the tiny dance floor, the obnoxious bouncers, and blatant sex discrimination ("I don't care if you are with your friends, the box is for the ladies"), this place sucked like a Hoover. At one point, I felt like I would have more fun cleaning my condo. The 14th and Crescent neighborhood has a ton of cool places - Twisted Taco, Leopard Lounge, Cosmo/Lava, Door 44, and Frontpage News to name a few... there is NO reason to even pause in front of Sutra's door.
