Royal Oak's elegant wine bar offers a menu of appetizers and entrees with roots that span the globe. In the mood for wine and cheese? Vinotecca has you covered. Change your mind and decide to stay for dinner? Vinotecca can handle that as well. Start with a salad. We tried the Tuscan Green salad with granny smith apples and caramel vinaigrette. Sounds a little strange? Taste it. You won't be disappointed. Other small plate appetizers include an excellent beef carpaccio, fried calamari, honey glazed scallops and even beef sliders with honeyed shallots and farmhouse cheddar. Feeding a group? Try a sampler tray of artisan cheeses-- boursin, mozzarella; meats--a delicious rosemary ham, smoked salmon or prosciutto; or side dips like hummus, or red pepper and feta. Full size entrees are also available, including a NY Strip Steak, Vino Lobster Mac & Cheese, or the Paella, which was divine--huge shrimp and scallops with lobster, mussels, chicken and sausage, saffron rice and traditional spices. The flavors were great. Over two visits, we sampled several glasses of wine, which are available by the bottle or glass. A couple reasonably priced favorites include the Kings Ridge Oregon Pinot Noir--silky smooth and light; and the Veramonte Primus blend of Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot & Carmenere. This wine was full bodied with spice and lush fruit. For your convenience, wines by are listed according to Big, Bubbles, Luscious, Crisps, Sweet, Smooth and Earthy. There's something here for everyone.

Trendy, posh, eclectic, fun, hip...these words describe TAO. If you want ambiance, something different and cool then I would def recommend coming here especially with a bunch of friends for drinks. Food: Not the best, not the worst but def not worth the price. Atmosphere: Very trendy, cool vibe. It has a huge Buddha in the back of the restaurant which is really cool, tranquil setting. The lounge area is comfy with couches and great lighting. They have tables downstairs but I would recommend sitting upstairs so you can have the full view of the Buddha and entire restaurant. I believe also the upstairs transforms into a dance floor after dinner is done. Service: When I went the waiter was not very helpful, he was actually down right rude. He tried to up-sell everything, which I guess I can not blame him but come on sometimes enough is enough. We wanted to share our meal and only order one side, which he informed us that wasn't enough food and practically was forcing us to order another side. It wasn't necessary. Bottom Line: If you haven't been, I would go once. Def better for drinks and hanging out. Don't have the sushi, not worth it.

Is it just me, or has Vertigo gotten a bit sketchier lately? I mean, it was always a bit sketchy, but that was part of its charm. Last night bordered on sleezy. We went for the first time in a while, and left early. Maybe we caught a bad night. I'll probably stop in again, out of sheer laziness, but I wouldn't call Vertigo a destination. It's more of a place to go out and dance if you don't really feel like going all the way out. Of course, that only works if you live up Polk. + good music, strong drinks, benches to dance on - shady crowd, cash only, not so nice door guy
