This spot is a good example of how San Francisco tries too hard to mimic the LA scene. There seems to be a misconception that the door staff needs to be rude and harass its customers to make this club feel exclusive. But it just serves to irritate the masses and make for a poor vibe. God forbid that there ever be a fire in this place because the layout and evacuation routes are so poorly set up I fear that it would wind up a bigger tragedy than the White Lion concert a few years back. The only saving grace is that they occasionally host a great DJ.

My biggest gripe with this place is that they aren't kosher. A lot of my friends keep kosher and an awesome gourmet kosher restaurant would be killer. Killer expensive, but awesome to go to a place where we could all order something and be happy. None the less Zahav is yummalicious. I sound like rachel ray when I say that and I apologize. However, the place is yummy. No trip to Zahav is complete without these next few plates... Salatim....a bunch of mixed salads. My faves the beets and carrots! The yummy warm hummus. Easily the best Hummus in the US...get it with the bread or you are a retard. Haloumi. How can anyone not like haloumi? Fried Cauliflower. Could eat this everyday of my life. You actually could make a meal out of all of those appetizers. I suggest you do. Who needs all that other jazz! The cocktails are also delish. They make a drink from the cucumber and tomato juice ( leftover from chopping) with vodka that is out of this world. I know this review is riddled with cliche. However, Zahav, is far from cliche. Even the atmosphere. They could have gone all kitschy israeli on is, but they didn't. I loved going to the bathroom...my friend starting singing along to the israeli pop music! The waitstaff is also friendly...which is great because Old City waitstaff can be not so lovely!

Came here on our last visit to LA. If you want to be on their "guest list" you need email in advance for a "reservation" and guest list closes at 1030. After that is a $20 cover. So we arrived at the club at 1130pm or so and there was no line so we just paid and walked in. The outside is beautiful just like it shows on the website. I thought the outside area would have been bigger based on the pictures. We didn't stay outside too long because it was a little windy and slightly cold. Ventured in and found a girl sitting in the middle of the room serving cupcakes (how awesome is that!) and then we hit up the first bar. The bartender was nice and we got our drinks in decent time. Then we ventured to the main bar area and dance floor and that dance floor was PACKED! wow! The dance floor is raised about 2 steps so its a little tricky getting on and walking off. Gotta make sure you don't fall off when you're dancing too. But the music was good and overall was pleasant. I would have given this place 4 stars easily but -1 star for the crap bar guy. I was at the main bar and ordered 2 shots of patron. He got them quickly for me and told me it was $20 bucks. So I gave him $100 and he came back and gave me $75 back in change. Are you serious? Did you just TAKE $5 as a tip for yourself from me? WTF do you do this to everyone? I didn't make a big deal about it because my friends were waiting but really a tip is something earned and not taken. If you come here definitely watch how much money you get back.
