by Heath H. on I had a late lunch here the other week and the food was pretty good but not as great as the reviews. The food took a while to be served and wasn't really that hot either. It could be because I didn't come during the prime hours. I'll be back for dinner one night and see if it's any better.
by Denna Weichel on Sally Draper could have mixed a better drink than the one I had last night at Bordello. When I ask for a martini to be "a little dirty," that does not mean I want 25% of its contents to be olive brine. Seriously. I had never been to the Bordello before last night, and was impressed with the atmosphere, the red walls, the chandeliers, the baroque and rococo stylings of the furniture and the oversize mirrors. The space is beautiful. However, the attitude behind the bar left much to be desired. I rolled in at about 9:30 and met up with a couple of friends. We bellied up to the bar and waited ... And waited ... And waited ... As all three--count them, three--bartenders continued to look in our direction but neither came over nor signaled that they would make their way over eventually. Remember, this was before 10:00, not exactly rush hour in the bar world. After several minutes, a new, fourth bartender emerged from the kitchen and asked, "have you been helped?" "Why no, you're the first person who has acknowledged us," was our reply, and instead of getting our drink order, this bartender stepped away and started tidying up the bar. O-kaaaaay ....... FINALLY, EVENTUALLY, one of them came over and took our order. "A gin martini and a 7-UP, please." The aforementioned martini tasted weird and unbalanced. I can't vouch for the 7-UP. Never in my drinking years has such crappy service and crappy drinks gone hand-in-hand so well. Which is a real shame, because Bordello's atmosphere is top-notch and I would have gladly put it on the top of my bar list had I been treated better.
