I fell in love with the devil last Monday night. After walking past East Side Show Room on the way to Rio Rita for what feels likes years, I finally walked in and sat down with some friends for dinner, drinks, and sexy cello music (courtesy Randall Holt). I'm always a bit overwhelmed when confronted with diverse cocktail menus and calling East Side Show Room's cocktail 'portfolio' diverse is a bit of an understatement. Do I want something with egg white? Have I really ever tried rye before? Do I think I would like it? After much oscillating, I ordered an El Diablo. I can't understand why I have never tried this classic drink before. I fell so deeply in love with the refreshing combination of tequila, ginger, and crème de cassis that I didn't even resent the $9 price tag. While my friends enjoyed the drinks they had ordered, we all ended up ordering a round or two of El Diablos by the end of the night. As far as the dinner portion of the evening went, I found myself disappointed. My boyfriend got a rib eye and even after discussing the merits of a perfectly cooked medium rare steak with the waiter, it came back overcooked (we do not blame the waiter). I had the quail and was turned off by the sickening sweetness of the entire dish. It was stuffed with sweet greens and nuts, cooked in sweet citrus marinade, and topped with sweet fig vinaigrette. I have to wonder if the creator of the dish was forbidden any and all sweets as a child and feels he has some lost time to make up. All in all, I think that the East Side Show Room's charming ambiance and excellent service will ensure our return. Next time I'll stick with what our fantastic waiter had recommended (braised lamb and mint ravioli or the fried chicken) or make it a pre-dinner drinks destination. Until my eventual return, however, I'll be nursing my brand new bottle of crème de cassis and drinking my El Diablos at home while my purse recovers from its exertions.

Loved the music and the vibe here! And you are allowed to sit on the back of the vip area chairs to you can avoid the drunk people spilling their drinks...love it!
