by Justin G. on There really isn't too much wrong with the Middlesex. The alcohol selection is as good as you are going to get any club, and the bartenders are as fast as they are attention. In both respects they are exceptional. I mean it's not every bar that you can get an eight dollar champaigne cocktail, a 22oz Red Stripe, or a top notch IPA and not feel like you snuck into someones wedding reception. The environment is very Nordic minimalist chic. It's amounts to being a small warehouse that's lined with cool tones and faux teak trim. The patrons are from all different scenes, but the largest contingent is alternative. The biggest difference between the Middlesex and almost anywhere else is that people go there with a good attitude and without posturing. I wouldn't recommend going on the Weekends as the line starts early, and there is really nothing to do once you get inside. However every other night of the week is a lot of fun. Wednesdays and Thursdays are particularly spirited. Worth checking out. Really and Truly.
by Riley Yow on Came here last night to see a Prog. House set from Argentinean DJ Hernan Cattaneo. One of my favs in house music. The Venue itself is very clean and organized. Walking down the stairs you got the bar to the right, dance floor straight ahead, VIP areas lining the walls and the bathrooms tucked away in the back area. I did not go to the bar because I was broke and didn't want to start a tab but when I did ask for a water I was glad to see the bartender not roll her eyes or anything like that. I have seen many bartenders do this and it makes me want to throw the drink back in their face. But I digress. This is a tiny place and on a night where a popular DJ rolls through, this place gets packed like no other. I swear by around 12 just getting from one side of the dance floor to the bathroom seemed like I was walking under a swimming pool floor. Slow and annoying. Despite it being tiny the place has an AMAZING sound system. By far one of the best I have ever heard in SF. The bathrooms are well kept and a lady or gentleman directs you and gives you a towel to dry your hands. Please Tip; who wants to be drying peoples hands at a club? Its not easy so please show them some respect. As for the crowd: A good mixture of Alpha Male Guidos, Persian-Guidos (Sub-Guido culture) , British hefty 40 yr old Pete Tong look alikes, your Euros w/ 3 girls attached at the hip and white pants, Girls looking fly, and of course your true house fans thizzin and doing some weird dance moves (This dude in the beginning almost took out a girl next to him with his ninja kick) Overall Vessel is a good place to come and listen to house music. Just remember you got to put up with a crowd filled with tools and dbags but bring a group of friends and then maybe even by the end of the night you will be dancing by the DJ booth or on top of the VIP table and maybe even fall on your face breaking a bottle of Grey Goose crying as you are getting carried out of the club (Saw it happen).
