by Donna C. on Been here a couple times... each time I had a different experience but both very fun. I don't really pay attention to the crowd but it's a chill environment. They give you a smoking area if you're a smoker (I'm not but some of my friends smoke) and they even have a bar in the smoking area for ppl who are hanging there lol. They have a dance floor with a bar and another bar in a lounge-like area. They also have pool tables for ppl. Nice place to go to b/c it's chill. The place can get pretty crowded so stick to your friends if they migrate a lot or you may get lost. Oh.. and I think it's free before 10 PM. Otherwise, I think it's 10 bux per person...
by Jannet Earnhart on Well now I feel bad for my assertion that there are no straight bars in the heart of the Castro. And yet, right here at the epicenter is a lovely, laid-back wine bar that would be the envy of many a straight neighborhood. Especially nice is that they've dialed down the romantic pretensions and just given it the lounge-around vibe of a coffee shop (albeit a well-lit and well-appointed one). Kicking back on the couches with your pals for a Friday night workweek debrief, washed down with a $10 glass of tasty Pinot (the Les Carabenes, I believe), is socializing at its best. I only wish the waiter had been a little less eager to flirt with our entire group--perhaps he was hoping we were drunk enough to get talked into ordering some of their tempting but pricy tapas. Also, it was almost too easy to get good seats in here--I can't help but wonder if this place is going to get waaay more popular after it's been open a little longer.
by Jewell Bristol on When my roomie asked that his birthday be a Tenderloin bar-crawl, we knew this would be the place we would all meet at. It's close to the Powell Station -- although be careful walking to this place at night. I suggest walking the middle of the street as the sidewalks are full of SF's finest. So we walk in to this little gem and ordered up a round of Jager shots -- the owner/bartender rocked it!! Not only was he nice and appreciated the new inhabitants (us) - but he can pour a mean shot. My favorite time had to be before the Marilyn Manson show that was at the Warfield (right around the corner) that night. We all came in dressed in gothwear. This type of thing rolls right off the back of the peeps of the 'loin. Don't get me wrong: this is a tough neighborhood -- keep your head about you and don't F*&* with people too much. I mean, we're all human, right?
