Rolled up at 230 on the Wednesday before Christmas. Not as difficult as I thought to get in to especially given our 1:1 girl/guy ratio. Inside the club felt pretty intimate. The DJ was playing an OK mix of music, but the sound system is amazing and more than made up for his choice of tracks. I would knock this place down to three stars because the bartenders seemed too happy to add on extra gratuity, but that's expected at these kinds of places.

rateclub never fails me. I needed to find a birthday party venue because I my downstairs neighbors are uptight have a fit every time we make any noise, but I wanted an easygoing, friendly environment where all my friends could enjoy themselves. Shine popped up repeatedly in my searches, and when I emailed Trip (I think he is one of the owners) he was very friendly and helpful, and it was easy to make a reservation and figure out food and drinks. I chose a Thursday so there would be less of a crowd. They also offered to open up an hour early just for me and my guests, so we could eat and have cake before regular patrons showed up. When we got there, they had set up an area for us, with a table laid out with my ordered food, and helped us organize the food and cake we brought in. I found out later that they also were serving cake to my guests. How nice! The atmosphere was great, with comfy booths and a good layout. We were sitting near the photo booth, which is one of the main factors for my choice in the venue. I must have been in there over 10 times, gradually drunker in each set of photos. If you want to see them, check out Shine's Flickr account on April 6, 2007. By the end of the night, my friends and I also partook of some pole-dancing fun, which would have definitely not happened if people didn't decide that it was their duty to buy me drinks. :) The music wasn't really my style, but I knew that before I chose the place, so it was ok. It was some sort of dancey electronica, but I'm not up on my techno genres so I can't be more specific. All in all, very good times.
