I visited South City Kitchen twice on a recent trip to Atlanta, and it gave me just what I was hoping for - a fun evening with upscale Southern cuisine. Here's a rundown of what I tried: The shrimp, scallops, and grits were my absolute favorite. These were so delicious and filling, and the grits were delicate and light. This was by far the best dish I had all night. The she-crab soup: I was expecting so much more. This was really the only miss of the night; it just didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting. Truth be told, it was a little bland. The buttermilk fried chicken - a little too heavy for me. Although it was delicious, there was just SO much breading. The potatoes were wonderful, and let it be said that I did finish nearly the entire plate of fried chicken - it was just so heavy and filling, I don't think I would get it again. The fried green tomatoes - loved these. Loved, loved, loved. I'm a big fan of goat cheese, so these won me over from the moment I saw them on the menu. Add basil in a delicious tomato sauce, and I'm sold. The pimento cheese - this was pretty good. Not amazing, but good. I really loved the flatbread it was served with. Wine and beer selection - very good. Plenty of choice, both in selection and price. I forgot to mention the biscuits and cornbread before your meal! The biscuits were good, but the cornbread was outstanding. I had to surreptitiously steal all the cornbread from the basket while my dining companions weren't looking. The restaurant itself provides a great atmosphere for a fun night out - big windows, wooden floors, a great space. We really enjoyed ourselves - eating at South City Kitchen was one of the highlights of our trip!

i've held my birthday party here for the past 2 years, first time it was great, BYOB and they even let us order take out. last year, was not so great, they charged us per person PLUS per hour, and then people who weren't even part of our party started to come in and then they would charge us for them too even if the person was literally in there for a second, and then they bring us 2 bottles of black label (when no one ordered it and no one drank it because we had our own booze) and at the end of the night, they charge the bottles to our tab at $60 per bottle and after i tried to fight that we didn't order it and we didn't touch it, they still made us pay for it and then they had to nerve to pull me back and tell me that tip wasn't covered. and that they require 15% for tip- meaning for our bill it was over $80!! in frustration to get them away i slammed down my credit card and paid, i shouldn't of but i did. i always try to avoid this place now. never again!
