by Alex G. on Put myself on the guest list and came out before 11 as they've requested. Stood in line with my friend only to be turned away because they were not allowing single guys in. This is probably my fault though because I've already heard a lot of bad things about their manager and their doormen being complete dicks. There are plenty of great clubs in SF - don't waste your time on this one.
by Maryjo Patty on I had the most wonderful time last night at Yoshi's. It's been on my To Do (To Eat? To Slurp Sake?) for ages now and I'm glad I finally went. I'll explain my experience from beginning to ending. First, let me rate it based on a breakdown: 5 stars for service: From the Maître d' to the sweet waitress we had to the bus boy. They were all very friendly and knowledgeable. 4 stars for location. It's a newly gentrified area, but it's not shed its ghetto feel yet. 3 stars for food, though 5 stars for sake! I found excellent parking on the street about half a block away (I'm parking-blessed--don't count on this). The area is kind of cutesy with all the shops and area feeling newly gentrified. After 6pm, this area is kinda' ghetto feeling, so don't leave anything of value in your car. That's just the feeling I got. The maître d' was just full of fun personality. I wish I caught his name. They have 2 different flights of sakes. We tried the first one, then the second one halfway through the meal. All 6 were very amazing. I highly recommend getting the flights. They are a great way to try some of the pricier sakes (some of them), in enough volume to really get to know and enjoy them. YUM! Some are floraly, some are on the edge of fruity, some are both, some are more bold and dry. We decided it was a sushi night. I can't remember all the food, but I'll try to list as many items that we tried as possible: Started with: Edamame - garlic, shallots, soy (not the salted ones) -- AWESOME "Fisherman" Carpaccio -- Meh... (don't bother) (rest of rolls will be updated later.... TBC) (of the many rolls, we loved 3 and 2 were... kinda' well... gross) We did not stay for music or the club area. Just the restaurant area. Sake Flights (we had both--online menu wrongly lists only 1 available flight). BOTH are AWESOME. I liked all 6 sakes that we tried for various reasons. I heavily suggest trying these. YUM! We had several sushi rolls. Their web site lists none of what we had. I remember getting the Spicy Geisha, Maki something or other and about 3 others. Sorry, I usually write these down or check the online menu. Unfortunately, I didn't write them down and the online menu is lacking.
by Izetta Frodsham on Be prepared for some serious GROPING. A $5 cover when we came in late Saturday night (11pm), but it was well worth it. The bartenders were friendly and fast and the DJ's were simply amazing. The beats they were playing were perfect for dancing. Wear comfortable dancing shoes and minimal clothing; it gets HOT and sweaty in BAOBOB. But damn, it sure is fun.
