After spending a majority of the day trekking through uncharted waters from Union Square to China Town with Nina P., our evening landed us at Cafe Du Nord to see the Phenomenauts! Walked downstairs and its a small bar venue, which is sweet, because small shows are always better. I had to use the restroom which is like being transported into Alice in Wonderland. As you open the door and proceed up the stairs, the ceiling begins to shrink or is it the slice of Upelkuchen cake that I ate prior to the show?? Heading to the bar I noticed they carried Racer 5! Always a plus when a bar has a least one "hoppy" beer on tap. I never seen any of the bands that were playing tonight, but for $13, it was a go. We missed the opening band and came in just as the Struts were finishing setting up their equipment. They were wicked awesome, definitely made the beginning of the night a good start! After their set, it was back to the bar and await for an unexpected trip to Rocket Roll!!! The Phenomenauts was the perfect band to end the day, a intergalactic Rockabilly band. Even after walking all day, I still found energy to move my feet and feed off the energy of the band and crowd. Overall, I enjoi'd the venue. It was small not packed (at least for this show), the drinks were average price for Cali and although I didn't get to sample the food, I saw some plates throughout the night that looked good! PS - I do dream of electric sheep when I dream at night =P

We only stopped in for a drink and appetizer, but the visit definitely left us wanting to come back for more. The entrance hides behind large, sleek black doors in the ultra-hip meatpacking district, so we had some trouble finding it. Once you peel back the hip exterior, it's like stepping into a huge Chinese garden. It is a huge space with lots of small rooms and places to explore. We spent several minutes just walking around the restaurant. There's even a small garden, located inside the restaurant, that is open to the sky. Service was great. The drinks came quickly and we ordered some spicy tuna rolls as a snack. Delicious. If we weren't going to be heading to dinner soon, I would have loved to try more off the menu. If we had been staying in New York even one more night, I think this would have been our choice for dinner. A very hip scene, with great food to match.
