Very eclectic bar in the Mission that has an African flare. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought this is where they filmed those Red Stripe commercial with the Jamaican Rasta in the suit but it is very similar in style. It's a small shack where they play music and people dance, really getting their groove on. It can get a little musty given the size of the place and lack of ventilation. Their drinks are on the small side but they offer some unique concoctions many of which feature ginger. Very interesting place with a one-of-a-kind culture. Only turnoff to this place is $5 cover. Easily a 4 star spot if it was free.

Let me just say...I love living in Midtown. I honestly have to say that this is probably one of the nicest bars in midtown. I went this past Sat for a resident party and it was coool. It did not get busy busy until 11PM or so...which is the norm. The music is good, and the venue is stunning to behold, but the bartenders are stretched thin, therfore, the place got crowded fast, so if you can find a place on the couches, you are in luck, because it will totally be your night, but if not, hhhmmm stand stand stand and enjoy the night. Overall the crowd is posh and there are tons of money floating around, hahaha...the fellas was def treating us ladies right with the drinks!

Fun small portion meal vast variety idea but overall disjointed with a teenage angst haven't found itself personality. 3.3 stars Cost to worth it rating: 2.5 (at $7/plate w the 14 course meal not too bad at $98 and options for 8 for $59 or 11 for $81, but overall not in the high fine dining realm to be fully worth it) Return worthiness: probably not Highlights: - Cheeseburger and fries: wasn't expecting this, but the juicy succulent slider accompanied by crispy rosemary fries in a square shot glass filled with ketchup was outstanding. - Beet salad: simple naturally sweet wedges flanked by melted marshmallowy textured buratta cheese and complimented by hidden salt crystals. - Snapper: tempura-like tapioca crusted piece of fish with delightful Asian soy flavors sitting on top of a fried sushi rice cake. - Menu: liked the freedom to choose typical sized dinner items or choosing your own tasting menu set of 8, 11, or 14 items. Most of the items sounded wonderful and portions for the tasting menu given the volume were larger than I expected--I was thinking almost a wee bigger than amuse size but for items like the fish they were maybe 1/4 of the size of a full entree. - Vegetarian and vegan friendly: they have complete menus for both Midlights: - Atmosphere: sleek modern industrial trendy from the exterior yet like a library inside and with odd glassware. Liked that it wasn't pretentious, but didn't match the quality of food being served. - Scallops: ok dish but bit misleading with a tempura description--merely had a few bits of tempura batter adjacent to a seared scallop. - Halibut:  nothing special, bit tough and dry - Risotto: nice cheesy flavor and crisp asparagus, but runny with foam that made it resemble more of the soup family than the risotto one. - Serving style: interesting idea of individual portions being placed together in the middle of the table via a tray, yet requiring you to retrieve the dish and put it in front of you to consume. Lowlights: - Lobster pot pie: the highlight of my other Michael Mina experiences, here it was the most disappointing plate of the night. Gummy undercooked crust, overall empty bland flavor, and a couple of tiniest lobster bits ever. Definitely did not warrant the $15 per person supplement--I feel like they should have paid us that by disgracing the iconic Mina item. - Unharmonious partnerships: like some of those awkward hard to watch couples on Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance (my favorite), the parts just didn't fit together. Standout items in this category were the random pineapple upside down cake with the duck and foie gras, passion fruit paired with the nutella custard, and basil gel glob with chocolate cake-ish roll up. - Inporportionate salt level: some dishes were dead bland (ex. ahi tartare, corn soup unless you got a pork belly bite in) desperately in need of some salt love and others (ex. risotto) had too much. - Wine: glasses I had were forgettable - Peach salad dressing: described as a vinaigrette, they found the need to throw a creamy substance on there - Valet charge: when you're paying the amount you are for dinner here, don't think they need to squeeze an extra $10 out of you like you're forcing a few more portions out of an already spent toothpaste tube. Glad I tried the LA member of the Michael Mina family, but I'll stick to the original.
