Apparently, Ajna Bar is formerly known as Buddha Bar so I guess it had some kind of mixed Asian identity crisis. It poses as a restaurant during the day and tries to be a shi-shi hip dance club at night. Granted the space is very eclectic and cool, with a large breath-taking entrance way with Buddhas greeting you as you step inside the restaurant - once you enter, there's a enormous dining space and to the left, there's crowded small tables with a smorgasbord of awkward dancers trying not to trip over one another. If you don't feel comfortable dancing, this is not the place for you because EVERYONE can see you shaking your bon-bon next to the tables or in the wide-open dining area. It gets really crowded around 11.30p and it's difficult for guys to get in without buying a table or getting in with a higher ratio of girls. One thing to note is that the music literally screams into your poor eardrums. Two hours later, I felt as if someone stuffed balls of cotton candy straight into my eardrums. Music is standard, it's not always the best dance music to get your groove on, but decent. There were a lot of foreign Europeans when I went and the crowd is definitely MIXED, which is a huge plus for me. On a scale of 1-10 of hotness, I'd rate the crowd around a 6. To be candid, anywhere in the Meatpacking district is definitely a hit or miss. I think it really depends on the people you go with and if you have this innate ability to always have fun, no matter what the scene is!

You definitely have to visit this place if you are in Atlanta - it is a historical landmark (or at least it should be). My friend took me here to witness the eccentric dancers - they are definitely not typical, many are quite 'mature.' The highlight was definitely Blondie - she has a very unique talent, but will not perform unless she gets enough moolah from the crowd. The drinks were cheap (I drank cans of PBR), but the bar is crowded on Saturdays I think, so you typically have to wait a while to order. There was a DJ the night I went, who was great. There is a small dance space, which does get a bit crowded, but was fun. The crowd was really diverse, lots of girls, guys, all ages, etc.

I have been here several times and every time it gets better. The venue is outstandingly beautiful. The service staff was amazing. The Phoenix hotel was and still is a Chip Conley's first property and he did an exceptional job. He does not sell sleep, but he creates dreams. Imagine this, you are having a wedding or reception, the place is surrounded by a pool, yes, a pool. The feeling you get is here is Southern California without the weather. It's the atmosphere. It's the scenic views. It's the feeling.
