by Michael P. on We were expecting to pay more for a fun experience, but this is ridiculous. On a scale of 1 to 10, the food was about a 3 and the entertainment was about a 4. Yes, you sit on beds while you eat and there are semi-funny trannies walking around, but it does not justify the $300 my gf and I spent (including drinks). I would recommend Asia SF for better entertainment, much better food, and a lower price. Overall supperclub was extremely disappointing. UPDATE: My GF went here again two weeks after our initial visit as part of a bachelorette party. She said the food and entertainment were much better than before. I guess it's hit or miss with this place.
by Adan Jardon on I've dined at Top Flr a half dozen times. My first visit there was enough to satisfy my curiosity. I wasn't overly excited about it, but I thought it was fine. My five subsequent visits as a result of group gatherings have all been :: fine:: as well. As such, I don't have any real complaints. It's just that "fine" isn't something to which I aspire or where I like to drop dollars. Consistency doesn't seem their strong suit. Sometimes the mac & cheese is the pinnacle of human achievement, sometimes it's impossibly lame. The hanger steak is almost always good but the portion is Lilliputian. I mean, even by my standards. I'm a lawn gnome. That steak - and all their entrees, for that matter - simply isn't going to cut it. Sides aren't included with the entrees so you have to scan the small menu for some accompaniments. And those babies ring in at $6 a piece. You need several of them to round out your meal and your stomach. It's too nickel and dimey for me. I won't gut someone in the stomach for choosing this place for dinner, but I won't ever be the one to suggest it, either.
by Shane Wordlow on Zahav is just the cutest little gem--unpretentious, unique, and, ultimately, surprisingly satisfying. I don't like tapas. I prefer big heaping plates, Cheesecake Factory-style. I'm a big glutton... trapped in a small glutton's body. But my dinner the other night with my treacly cute couple friends afforded the rare satiating tapas experience. I wasn't stuffed, but I was full and pleasantly so. Moreover the tastes--from the buttery Turkish hummus to the astoundingly flavorful Kashkaval (baked sheep's milk cheese with quail eggs) to the meal-making Kibbe Naya (perfectly spiced raw lamb)--were all so rich and rewarding I didn't need a heaping helping (though I wouldn't have said no). The service is as warm as the ambience (a rarity lately). We felt part of a vibrant restaurant floor without being crowded or listening to anyone else's conversation (despite how hard I tried). Ask for Bonnie when you go, though I suspect most other servers at Zahav will be as knowledgeable and attentive.
