I totally understand why many have raved about the food at Carman's Country Kitchen. It's delicious, well cooked, and eclectic. My friend has am impeccably done Scottish salmon. yum. For an out-of-towner, I was initially very happy when some friends took me here for brunch, even though we had to wait 20 minutes for a table in the rain. Nevertheless, I, like Michael, had the unfortunate experience of sitting next to the kitchen. Normally, it would be my favorite seat in the house - I love watching people cook. And Carman is impressive, cooking several meals at once and all to complete perfection. Like Michael and his crew, we were just done our meals, I was still nibbling at my half-finished french toast (hefty portions, you know), when Carman leaned over and told us to hurry up and get going! Seriously? Your place has like 10 seats, but that shouldn't be a free ticket for rudeness, hun. Yah, it was a cool place, but not worth being spoken to like that. I left the rest of my french toast and went on my merry way.

Don't judge me... but I have been here 3 times in the past month :X I guess that does mean it had to be pretty decent to keep me coming back! I must admit all 3 times were tons of fun, whether it was just going with one friend and hanging out with random people we've met that night or going with a boatload of friends to celebrate a birthday. Pluses: +nicer decor (def not your dive bar) +good music +nice bartenders & easy to get drinks +clean bathrooms (girls care about this stuff!) +walkable distance to Crepes A Go Go (at least after drinking...) Minuses: -TINY!!! The bar gets crowded quick and no dancefloor, boooo -Hard to get a cab leaving the area. Twice we resorted to taking a private car and the third time we walked all the way to Market, only to wait forever, then share a cab with a random person. Sloane, you've been good to me, but I'm taking a break!

Went here last night with a few friends, what awesome dcor. Just like other reviews mentioned it was like a movie set from Dusk Till Dawn, too cool! Love the crushed velvet paintings, stucco arches and Da de los Muertos marionettes. When I get around to building my villa in Costa Rica I will model it after this place ;) Drinks were strong, but a tad on the expensive side. The music was good, too. Over all a lot of fun. I need to try dinner here next, they were completely booked last night. In short. I love all things Hispanic; food, dcor, music, donkey shows, etc... So how could I not like this place, I can't, inconceivable! The place is great! The crowd on the other hand was a pain, the place was too packed and getting a drink or appetizers was impossible at the front bar. Pssst, I will let you in on a little secret they have a back patio with a bar and it was real easy to order from there.
