A friend of mine took me here. I always bring ear plugs to a club. Unlike me,gorgeous people all over. Nice sound system that you can feel with your body. It is like a body massage without any objects touching my body. That must be really good for my blood circulations. But isn't it sad when some girl next to me talked to me and the first thing she said to me was "Hey, what are you taking tonight? " I answered "Diet Coke!" She never talked to me back. Well, that is my usual drink at a club. I was just too honest.

This is our second year of doing a Jazz Club for Tony's Birthday Dinner - I am pleased with my decision to go with Yoshi's on the recommendation of a handful of SF friends. Let's start with the reservation process.. This was very simple to do in advanced. I really like the way you can reserve actual SEATS in the Jazz Club if you book dinner reservations & purchase tickets. I did NOT like the $46 "handling" fees...seriously??? What did you have to handle that costs almost more than the ticket??? The restaurant was delicious. I love the open kitchen & the ambiance. I ordered the little lobster appetizer popper things. SOOOOOO good. This pretty much filled me up. For an entree I ordered the black cod which is printed as 6 ounces but I'm pretty sure was closer to 10 ounces. I also ordered their uni which tasted fresh and came out quickly after ordering. Also their little beidets (sp?) for dessert were scrumptious - they are "fancy" little donut holes. The actual show, Lewis Ramsey Trio, was AMAZING. Their drummer kicked major butt and Ramsey was smooth as ever. We had great seats & the audience was well engaged & respectful (ie not talking the whole time).

I went to Cafe Du Nord about a month ago with a friend who noticed a sign that said Minnie Driver would be playing in August. Sweet! I saw Minnie Driver at the Black & White Ball a couple years ago and she was great. Standing for her entire set, though, was not so great. Being that Minnie's music isn't exactly of the get-up-and-dance sort, I decided I was going to get a table for her Cafe Du Nord gig. So I called, left a message and they called me back. Again, sweet. Getting a reservation and tickets was really easy. When you make a table reservation for a show you're expected to order food, which we did. The food is about as good as you'd expect bar food to be. I had the burger which was cooked medium-rare, just like I asked, but wasn't served on focaccia, like the menu said. We ended up getting the best table in the house though, so it was worth it. Our server, Hilary, was really nice and very apologetic that she was so busy. Frankly, I thought the service was fine...no need to apologize! The show was great, despite the opening acts, which was a surprise, because the last couple times I had been to Cafe Du Nord, the opening acts were much better than the headliner. Minnie was excellent though and her band was tight. My date, who had never heard her before, even said she liked just about every song. Cafe Du Nord is a great place to see live music. The tickets are usually really cheap and sound system is pretty good. Make dinner reservations if you don't want to stand and if it gets too loud, buy some ear plugs (50 cents at the bar).
